What Parents Say
Exeter Day School receives mixed reviews with strong praise from satisfied families highlighting caring staff, enriching curriculum, and a nurturing environment, but serious concerns raised by other parents regarding administrative fairness, director conduct, and safety issues.
So grateful for our time at EDS! We feel so lucky to have found this little gem. My daughter was super happy here and though we’ve out grown it for now, we are still best friends with the girls from her class. It’s a very tight knit and safe community. Shout out to Ms. Barker for being so great with our kiddos! As soon as my son turns of age, I will be sending him here! Fingers crossed we get in again :)
Exeter Day School has been a treasure for our family, and all three of our kids have had incredible experiences there. Every teacher brings unique, caring personalities to their classrooms that make each day memorable for the kids. The administration and floating teachers all get to know each child well, too. The school provides music classes, library time, gymnastics classes, plus their diverse curriculum and fun indoor and outdoor play areas. Thank you, EDS for giving seven years of amazing care and learning to our kids!
As a teacher of 12 years, I do not recommend Exeter Day School. They discriminated against my child. The director said he would “disturb the culture” when asked about switching his class in November then We were told by a board member it was too late, however there were two other students that switched classes or joined in January, one being another board member’s son. I question the director’s qualifications and if she even likes children. I ask the board member for a call. We got an email. She goes off on how amazing the director is (far from it) Again, there is a lot of politics, lack of education. We also questioned the safety of the students. The club houses in the classes are a safety concern. Inappropriate behaviors were not addressed properly.
We feel incredibly fortunate to have discovered Exeter Day School, as it has proven to be a nurturing environment for our little one's early education journey. From the moment we stepped through the doors, the warm and welcoming atmosphere instantly put both our children and us at ease. The experienced and caring staff at Exeter Day School goes above and beyond to create a stimulating learning environment. The classrooms are thoughtfully designed to encourage curiosity, independence, and imaginative play. Our child's teachers have a remarkable ability to strike the perfect balance between structured learning and free play, fostering a love for exploration and discovery. One of the standout features is its unique location next to Phillips Exeter Academy. The access to their expansive fields and trails provides an enriching outdoor experience for the kids, complemented by a well-designed playground at Exeter Day School that caters to both active play and creative activities. Our child's growth, both academically and socially, has been remarkable, and we couldn't be happier with our choice. If you're seeking a preschool that values each child's unique journey and fosters a love for learning, Exeter Day School is the place to be!
Switching of directors was never announced. New director is rude and unprofessional. I would be fired if I spoke to people the way she does. There’s a lot of politics at this school. All students do not care fair access to education. I would never send any of my other children here.
