The school itself is nice and the staff and teachers are really nice and are the only reason why this place is still somewhat thriving. The board doesn't really care about the community's opinions unfortunately. The class of 2025 did a senior prank and the school did make it a lot more serious then it had to be. They did this only because the class didn't have someone to supervise them which at the time they did not say that they needed one in their book of rules and they had a key to the building which there is still copies floating around after they got into trouble for having it. After all of that was said and done we found out that at least one of the board members wanted to arrest the students for breaking and entering which was stupid and almost all of the staff did not agree with it.Then this year the school banned cellphones which is whatever in the fact that I don't care if they take cell phones or not, but they had a vote for the community to choose whether or not they should ban cellphones and they announced that they will ban cellphones on their Facebook which they made it to where the community can't comment on it and I'd be surprised if they even took the community's opinions into consideration. Unfortunately this school has some great teachers and has potential but the board and the way they do things makes it to where this school is a joke anymore.

I am sharing this simply to inform parents so that they can make the best decision for their child. My personal experience was that I have a huge amount of grief and resentment because of the experiences that I missed out on in my youth and I’ll never get that time back, I will carry it with me for the rest of my life. I had beliefs instilled in me that I was not the smartest or most capable or that I was just shy or depressed when in reality, I was simply not exposed enough to new environments and experiences or different kinds of people and views to be able to grow and thrive. I thought that maybe I was just incapable of making friends or being interested in learning but my junior and senior year, I started hanging out in Marquette and it filled my soul with so much wonder! Those beliefs I had about myself started to melt away a little bit, I made LOTS of friends super easily actually! I learned about the environment, sustainability, up cycling, cooking, making Art, I started to find my identity and sense of style and interests! But I still have imposter syndrome and SO so much grief and anger that will never go away completely. I would confidently say that my time in Engadine schools was a huge trauma for me and hugely negatively impacted the trajectory of my development and my early 20s. There were some Amazing and genuinely kind staff members and still are, but the good teachers moved away as their kids got older because the hard truth is that for most students and graduated students that I even know personally, Engadine is simply an inadequate place to raise kids any further than middle school. There is a TON of research on what kind of an environment is conducive for learning and personal development at each age level and Engadine does not have the level of development or population for a high school aged kid to thrive and they will end up blaming and underestimating themselves which will affect them negatively throughout their adult lives since your high school years are arguably the most formative years of your life. If a person does not have the right level of social interaction or exposure to new views and environments, the connections in your brain are actually weakened causing it to be much harder to learn and you are at a much higher risk for developing anxiety, depression, self sabotaging behaviors and a negative self image, especially when you actually do get out in the world and don’t feel adequately prepared or you feel behind and out of place. I recently went to Wildcat weekend at NMU for pre-clinical psychology or biology with a focus on neuroscience and ended up crying not because it was a bad experience but because it was an incredible experience beyond words and it was everything I was missing in high school but now I’m at a weird age to just be starting school at a decent college and I felt a ton of crushing grief, sadness, and resentment because I felt out of place. There were a ton of really cool people with cool interests and styles who complimented my outfit and we had some really interesting conversations but most of the girls were 18 or 19 and I am now 21, wayyy behind in life and still trying to dismantle the old beliefs I had about myself and prove to myself that I am capable of things outside my comfort zone. In my opinion, unless Engadine can become a little more developed and attract more people within the next few years, there shouldn’t be a high school. I hope this helped someone. :,)
