Two of our children went to Elim (partially during COVID), and it was a great experience. Staff was great at helping prepare them both for Kindergarten, and have been successful since. Even though they both aged out, they both miss the school, and consider it part of our family.
This is a play-based preschool. My son was at a great Montessori but he just didn’t dig it, so we tried something else. He’s thriving. He is entering kindergarten next year and he is great with and reading small words. He has plenty of focus and kind manners. He also learned how to play “toilet tag” and “ships across the ocean” in school. Let’s be real, a 5 year old playing those awesome playground games already?! This is a pretty amazing school. Don’t worry about religious vs non religious. It’s no big deal at this school. All inclusive and not weird. Also teachers are really qualified and principle is very personable and a great communicator.
Strange how the black families never last too long at Elim. I pulled my kid shortly after one of the teachers called my child "crazy" and when I asked him why he was behaving the way he was he said " he only gets attention when he's being bad" at 4 yrs old. He's been in play therapy at washburn to undo those attention seeking behaviors.
We had an awful experience at Elim. We are a split family (I’m step-mom and he’s dad) and they favored the bm (biological mother) extremely...despite having almost equal days of the week. Some of the prominent teachers, although sweet to your face, were catty and at times were blatantly rude (to me and dad). Well, fast forward through two tortuous years there...BM made false allegations of abuse (which was later negated by two government officials) and they were willing to testify against Dad (not over witnessing actual abuse, but because they once saw Dad make son find his missing tshirt). Testify in court! 🤦🏻♀️ Old school thought=old school values. If you are a blended family, I highly recommend choosing somewhere else. Unless you’re the favored one, of course.
