What Parents Say
The Education Center of United Methodist Church receives highly polarized reviews. Positive reviews praise the caring staff, developmental progress, communication through apps, and welcoming environment. Negative reviews report serious concerns including misrepresentation of room placements, failure to manage aggressive behavior (including the director's child receiving preferential treatment), delayed or missing incident reports, injuries to children, and HIPAA violations.
We regret sending our child here for a variety of reasons: #1 - We were lied to from the start. When we toured this center, the Director told us our child would be in the Toddler A room, but that was not at all the case. Our child was placed in the Infants room every day without our knowledge. Once we got wind of this, it was like pulling teeth to get our 18 month old in an age-appropriate room with age-appropriate friends doing age-appropriate activities. We were so fortunate that he didn’t regress! #2 - The Director’s child displays excessive aggressive behavior on a daily basis to children and teachers and nothing is done about it. While the parent handbook does state how excessive aggressive behavior is rectified, because it’s the Director’s child he’s given special treatment and the rules don’t apply to him as they do for everyone else. It’s a huge conflict of interest that this Director has proven her inability to handle appropriately time and time again. We met with the Director in person and she reassured us our children would be separated, however, the Director chose to put our kids together again a day later without our knowledge or permission, which led to our son getting hurt once more. She broke our trust inevitably. #3 - We reached out to the board for help and spoke with a woman named Rosalie. Rosalie told us that the board would be meeting promptly to discuss these issues and promised to call us back. Well, as it turned out, promptly meant a whole week and a day later and Rosalie never bothered to call us back.
Our child was targeted by another childcare center, had us completely convinced they had a behavioral disorder. We had them evaluated by the Excel Program and told us to find another care provider. We found the education center and Nicole was amazing. She helped transition our child from the terror of the grade level to a normal happy healthy kiddo. They are now in Kindergarten and doing fantastic. I don't know what we would have done without Nicole and Megan.
We had a very bad experience at this center. Incident reports either were extremely late or completely missing. Our child was bit twice in less than a 2 week period. I had to ask 3 times for those incident reports and still only received 1. We were told that no aggression policy was in place.
Both of our sons attend the Education Center and we could not be more grateful to everyone there. It is filled with wonderful people who truly love and care about all of the kids who go there. Our oldest son just turned 2 when he started and had been at home with us for 9 months prior. His transition was great and he quickly grew to love all his teachers and classmates. We were pretty surprised at how quickly things like speech/vocabulary, counting and general independence progressed, only weeks into starting. The kids are always busy with activities, arts and crafts, science experiments or outside play. It was then a very easy decision to start our youngest son soon after, when he hit 4 months old. He has been so well cared for and loved the whole time. From the start, his teachers have done all of the important things an infant needs in order to develop and hit milestones. He gets tons of hugs and snuggles, sometimes not even wanting to let go of Ms. Shianna at pick up time. The phone app that The Education Center uses is really helpful. We are sent multiple pictures/videos of both boys daily and receive updates on activities, as well as naps, lunch and snacks. All of the teachers are extremely responsive when messaging on the app, which is really appreciated. We could not recommend The Education Center enough and look forward to the years ahead for our boys.
Our son was only there for 6 months but in our short time there we were welcomed like family. Very professional willing to work with the kids and parents. Only regret was that we didn't move him to here sooner.
