What Parents Say
Ebenezer Child Care Center receives mixed reviews. Parents with infants and toddlers report excellent experiences with small class sizes and attentive staff, but parents with 3+ year old children cite insufficient staffing, poor communication, chaotic classroom environments, and concerning staff conduct.
This was my first daycare experience, and it has been absolutely outstanding! I can't say enough wonderful things about the teachers. My daughter had a difficult time adjusting to daycare life, as well as myself honestly, and they were so incredibly patient, caring, and understanding with both of us:) She has blossomed since attending Ebenezer, socially, personally, and intellectually. It's such a relief to know that she is in such good hands when I can't be there for her.
This has been my first daycare experience and I must say it has been awesome!! My kids are going on two years at this facility and I would recommend it to anyone in the Middletown area. I like how all the staff gets familiar with all the kids regardless of if they are in the same room. My son who started Kindergarten this year looks forward to going to the main facility on snow days and holidays. It really couldn't have been a better experience!
They were very good with infants and 1-2 year old children but, they needed to work on their transitioning to the next level. 3 and up was a nightmare for us and I believe this was due to not having enough staff. We were told that they had the maximum child to staff ratio (20 Kids and 2 Staff). It didn't seem like the directors knew how to handle difficult situations...
I'm not sure if anyone else had a similar experience but mine has not been pleasant. We were VERY excited to get our son started in a pre-school program with Ebenezer. The first couple of weeks were a bit rough but I chalked it up to him being new and not knowing the program or the people. Things seemed to improve with him, however he missed out on some things because the "weekly" newsletters that were supposed to be issued never reached his mailbox until mid-week so he was not able to participate in anything that required us to bring something into the school. I usually dropped him off in the morning and on the rare occasion I would pick him up, I was greeted by chaos every time. Children screaming, teachers not really doing anything, my son's possessions that should have been in his cubby were scattered and someone else's items were in his cubby (a soiled pair of underwear once). Our first parent/teacher conference was filled with nothing but negative remarks about our son's behavior. My husband and I were even told that he may benefit from having a sibling. After making it clear that he was going to be an only child, the comments kept coming, "Are you sure?" "He would really like a younger brother or sister." EXTREMELY inappropriate. I bit my tongue and kept telling myself that we made a good choice. After a good summer, no bad reports, the fall schedule started and after the second week I received a phone call that my son was no longer welcome there and someone needed to pick him up ASAP. He is a very strong-willed child and can be a challenge at times. I truly believe that the staff at Ebenezer had decided quite awhile ago that they did not want to "deal with" my son. When you have 22 children and 2 "teachers" in one classroom, you cannot tell me that you see everything that happens. My son was singled out whether he was provoked, teased or otherwise, it was ALWAYS his fault. Obviously we are in search for another pre-school and I have to say that I am very happy about that.
This daycare center is a hidden gem, especially for infants and toddlers. The class sizes are small and there is a ton of "TLC" given to the kids.
