What Parents Say
Dr. Day Care South County has received mixed reviews with significant concerns about management and staffing. While some parents praise individual staff members and the caring atmosphere, multiple recent reviews describe serious issues including staff turnover, poor administration, lack of communication with parents, inadequate child care practices, and inability to accommodate children with special needs.
I've had my kids at the South County center since 2016. My daughter went from infant room all the way until she started kindergarten. My son is presently in the toddler room. I literally cannot express how happy I am with this center. Andrea and Anne, the admins, are awesome and just love on all those kids. The rest of the staff that have had my children have always been very loving, kind, and friendly. When my daughter and I go pick up my son, she is greeted like a long lost friend. It's like a big family. <3 Update 2/15/23 - Sadly, last week the home office fired Andrea and is calling it a resignation. The majority of the staff has given their 2 weeks notice. I'm not convinced this center will have the staff to remain in operation. I have started looking elsewhere for care as I cannot trust the people who run this organization at this point. I do not want my child associated with a company that does not value and support their employees.
At first, we were very impressed with the quality of the staff and administration, such as with Andrea D. The teachers and staff truly cared about the kids and were so invested. The staff was willing to problem solve, was highly responsive, warm and inviting. However, apparently this company is grossly political and have forced out staff and administration over petty altercations. As such, there is currently next to NO staff at this site with very tenuous plans to rectify the situation. Hiring is difficult for all companies currently, but the current situation is very mishandled. The current "acting admin" will lie to you about occurrences in the day and not disclose information relevant to my child's care. Administration have explicitly told teachers to NOT talk to parents or answer parent questions! Amy Vogel is a terrible representation/lead for this company, who mishandled parents and teachers concerns, and initiated a poor direction for the company to go in. The problem starts with poor accountability and ends hiding mishandled situations. The ones who suffer are the children we entrust in your care. As someone involved in the treatment of youth, I am extremely dissatisfied and will not be returning to Dr. Daycare.
I started utilizing dr daycare when my daughter was 7 months old, and it didn't take long for the administration and staff to prove they were clueless, unprofessional and untrained. Although there were a few lead teachers in the infant rooms that my daughter loved, the "assistants" were rude, had no idea what they were doing, were in-and-out of different classrooms daily, and never bothered introducing themselves. I never knew who was going to be caring for my daughter. I'd drop her off to one person, and when I picked her up she'd be with Someone inexperienced whom I had never even met. The administration is a disaster in itself. The director is extremely unprofessional, and has no idea what she's doing. The site administrator Kate is a horrific woman who comes unannounced, doesn't know ANY of the children, and tries to dictate what's best for babies she's never even met. Although there were MANY problems with the facility, Kate ruined any positive experience I could have had there. She decided on her own to change my daughters nap schedule, went against what I told her was best for my daughter, and told me I should hire a babysitting service instead, and I could follow her rules or leave. Needless to say I left as soon as I could and ended up missing days of work because of her attitude and lack of knowledge when it comes to childcare. I spoke to the owner about Kate, who was just as unprofessional and clueless. Despite my complaints, and the complaints of several other parents, Kate remains employed. Aside from Kate, who could only be described as a power-hungry, miserable, abhorrent and stubborn person who has no one's best interest at heart but her own, my daughter was not properly cared for. She was constantly coming home dirty with stained clothes, messy face, injured, hungry, and thirsty. There were several instances where I picked her up and she had gone hours without anything to drink, to the point that I needed to bring two water bottles daily to make sure she had one available. The staff and administration there have no idea what they're doing and have no experience. The staff is unprofessional, trashy and never even appears to be put together. Not everyone can work in the childcare field, and I would challenge you to find more than two people at Dr. Daycare South County who actually know what they're doing.
My two granddaughters have been attending Dr. Day Care South County for about six months now. The staff is amazing and takes wonderful care of both of them . Knowing they are safe and well taken care of puts my mind at ease. I attended the family bbq/ carnival and seeing how much fun the families and children had I new the directors and teachers really cared about their families.
I toured this facility after learning they offered integrative services. My nearly three year old has an IEP for her sensory disorder. After talking on the phone and touring the daycare, they suddenly started making a big deal about my daughters special needs. (Which really only requires extra patience on their end, since she is already provided with OT services through our public school district.) The directory also casually mentioned to another parent (who currently has her child enrolled) how they were unsure they could accommodate my daughters IEP. This was said BEFORE giving us a tour or ever mentioning concerns with me. After them seeming to make such a to do over it all, I told them we were no longer interested in enrolling with them. I’ve talked to several teachers, some who work in special education specifically, and all have warned me to STAY AWAY FROM DR. DAYCARE! Before touring I was unaware of what a bad reputation they have! We enrolled in a different daycare & have also been told by staff there that they have many children transition over to them from dr. Daycare as well. I’m happy to have dodged that bullet! I’m hoping others will too! When they started making such a big deal out of my daughters IEP it was a huge red flag!
