Discovery Learning Center

We moved to Sioux Falls in 2016. Discovery was our first local daycare we walked into, and we fell in love with them right away! Over the last 9 years, we have had the privilege of having all 5 of our kids in the trusted care of Discovery Learning Center! What does Discovery mean to us - where to start!!?! The staff are top notch! Caring, professional, and fully vested in ensuring that each child thrives under their care. We absolutely appreciated that the children prayed before meals, that Christian radio was softly playing in the background, and that each year, the kids put on a wonderful concert for us parents to fawn over our little babies growing up!! Our kids have such fond memories of this amazing establishment, and - well as you can see we have had 9 amazing years of experience! Discovery is always our number 1 recommendation to young families!!

I chose this place when I was pregnant because I watched my best friend’s kid go from an in home to DLC and flourish! In just weeks, she was coming home knowing all the colors in Spanish and could count to 10 in Spanish as well. As a brand new mom, I didn’t have one worry about leaving my baby with Miss Mady. Now, my almost 2 year old knows over 10 words in sign language! The teachers have been great and open to communication when I ask questions. The classes are a great size so my kid isn’t just another number. He knows many teachers and it has been so great to see him want to fist bump this one or make sure he says bye to another. Awesome place all around.

My son has been going to Discovery since he was 3 months and loves it. Ms. Cristy takes the time to get to know each childs personality. I love that she takes the time to meet all aspects of motor skills, sensory art projects, story time etc. And when the weather is nice she makes sure the children are able to be outside. They will talk what they see on their walk, or if on the playground how the grass feels etc. Ms. Cristy also has a great connection with parents and willing to work with any requests. As a parent herself, she understands what families may go through. I have a childcare background and understand what it takes to work with young children and I couldn't ask for better staff to help take care of my son and the smaller size classes. my daughter has been going to DLC on 41st for a few months now and we LOVE it here! as a first time mom i was very hesitant on where to send my baby. we toured a half dozen daycares but there was something special about this one! we’re very glad with our decision. they are great with communication, sending you updates/photos, tracking activities and everyone is so nice!

Discovery was recommended by someone who previously had children who attended the center. I have loved our experience with our teachers and most of the helpers (like Ms. Addyson). Ms. Cristy is wonderful. The kids seem to adore her. She focuses on feeding their mind, body, and soul. She does numerous projects with the kids and tries to keep them engaged. Ms. Skylar is warm and comforting. She is very sweet and helps with big feelings. The center does have a high turnover, so that isn't great for the kids, but most of the teachers who are there do seem to care about them. There are a few helpers that I am not crazy about but they allow the good teachers to keep their numbers within the state guidelines. The staff generally accepts requests and adjustments. Mel and Cristy always listen to concerns and try to provide solutions that work for everyone. I wish that they were more supported by the owners, but we appreciate all that the staff does. I do not love their parking lot. I wish that their vans would park in the back of the lot when they are not loading and unloading or in the parking lot on the East side so more parents can park. The center has had some updates to the toys and decor recently. They are making strides in the right direction and that helps to know that our tuition is being well spent. I would like the center to spend money on an app for parents and staff to utilize like Brightwheel. They use dry erase or paper sheets, but if the kids are shifted halfway through the day, so I have no idea what really happened. Did they nap? Eat lunch? We used Brightwheel at other daycares and loved it. It let parents know what happened with the child, and staff can also alert parents when supplies are needed. I would be happy to update my rating when the center is brought more up to date.
