This was my first time doing the school lottery choice in DeKalb county. I honestly have never heard of having to do a school lottery choice just to get your child into a good school. I wanted my daughter to get into School of the arts for 4th grade next year because she draws so well and she really wanted to expand her knowledge In visual arts. Another big reason why I chose this school is because I wanted my child out of flat rock elementary, which is a horrible school. I had called the school and spoken to a few people and not once have they ever told me the proper process in having to choose two areas of interest. When I did the school lottery choice, it only required me to do one area of interest, which I selected visual arts. We went to the interview and the lady who worked there, unfortunately, I did not get her name, quickly denied my child because she did not have two areas of interest. I asked what could be done and can we prepare and come back tomorrow since auditions are still going on tomorrow. She declined, and had no interest in trying to help my child whatsoever trying to get into the school. It seemed like she did not want to give my child a fair chance and not even try to call the principal or someone to see what could be done. She just simply stated there’s nothing that we can do. And that it’s on the website. She did not care, which was obvious. And that reflects on the school in my opinion!
I went to this school it was a lot of bullying and nobody did anything to stop it there was a lot of fights people being rude and harassing me and the teachers or staff never did anything to help or stop the bullying

I still at this school and this is school is something else they are very very strict they will yell at you for like literally unknown things I mean yeah this is a good school if you like have a good talent and stuff but just know they’re strict and if you are sensitive of teachers yelling at you go at your own risk.
I love this school! The bathrooms would run out of toilet paper and there were some ant problems, but I still enjoyed this school! The staff are caring and sweet, the food was always good, and seating was never a problem. I went here from kindergarten to 6th grade, I am now in 9th grade but this school felt like one of the best experiences I've had. Compared to how the old school was before the school moved, it's a major improvement. Love you all, even the staff who are no longer there! -Caitlin G. Reese <3
