My daughter attends the Lowell YMCA Summer day camp, and has talked about going to this location once or twice a week to swim with her group. It just so happened, that our local high school pool where we typically swim on Saturdays was closed today. She suggested we make the drive to GR and try this place, and ohhhh my goodness! What an experience! The pools were the PERFECT temperature, the hot tub was relaxing when I snuck over for a quick dip (and I could peek over the side to keep an eye on her while she played with some other kids). It was just amazing. We will definitely be getting a membership and make this our new place to go hang and work out. The staff were all amazing. The lifeguards were friendly and professional, the front desk staff have a way about them that makes you feel like they are HAPPY to have you there... and for those of you who have taken your kiddos places that are "kid friendly" or even places that are MADE for children, this is not always the case with staff at those places, so it was very refreshing. Thanks for a great day guys! I wish I could give 10 stars! ❤️
I've been coming to this facility for about a month now, has been a great experience. It has all the proper weight equipment, you need to get healthy and in good shape, but it also has all the recovery equipment you need like a hot tub sauna and steam room. It also has a pool that you can use if you're injured for recovery or just to get a good swim, The only thing I would add would be a cold plunge. Also, the staff is very friendly and accommodating thank you
The class size first and foremost was the best thing about our experience. For my kids to learn how to swim with only two other children was perfect, I hope the ratios never change! The patience of the instructor (and the sub instructor this week) was also such a great help. These two are really wonderful young women and have done so well with my kids, who are both Autistic and sometimes need a little extra. Thank you!
I’m disappointed in how the YMCA handled a situation where I raised concerns about feeling emotionally unsafe to use the gym due to a staff member’s retaliatory behavior - both in the facility and online. I asked specific questions about their code of conduct and what protocols exist to support member safety, but was met with vague or non-answers and no action, other than being told to report future incidents. I was a longtime member and a local fitness professional who simply wanted to feel safe using the gym. I’m not leaving this review lightly. I hope the YMCA will reconsider how they respond to member concerns - especially when it comes to emotional well-being and staff accountability. I’ve since learned that others have had similarly frustrating experiences with lack of accountability and unclear leadership. It’s disappointing, but not surprising, that member safety and staff conduct issues are treated with such passivity. *** Update: I am adding this after learning that another female member has reported similar concerns involving the same staff member referenced above (Brandon Alexander, who was a spin instructor during my membership). My original concern involved feeling emotionally unsafe due to behavior I experienced as retaliatory and involving blurred professional boundaries. I am sharing this to encourage the YMCA to take member concerns about staff-member boundaries and emotional safety seriously — particularly when multiple women raise similar issues. I hope leadership will implement clearer accountability and reporting procedures so members feel safe and supported.
The gym is becoming better and better. The number and assortment of machines and free weights is fantastic, the layout makes sense, and the availability of multiple pools, basketball courts, sauna, steam room, and hot tub, are hard to find in other gyms. Machines are regularly maintained and updated, with the latest and greatest, as well as regular replacing of pads and linings. While some work remains ongoing, it will only result in an even better product. Parking has changed and while there is another two or three minutes added to getting in and out, the new garage is incredibly easy to navigate, and parking is abundant. No more driving around and hoping that a spot opens up while you are in the lot.
