What Parents Say
Colonial Village Nursery receives mixed reviews. Most parents praise the nurturing environment, outdoor play emphasis, and caring staff, reporting their children thrived there. However, a minority of parents reported concerning interactions with staff, including harsh discipline and unprofessional behavior toward children.
We could not be more pleased and thrilled with our experiences at Colonial Village! My son, a free-spirited, curious and creative kid, attended here for two years and it was SUCH a blessing for us! Miss Jill, Miss Sherry, Miss Jordan, and all the rest of the teachers, were unfailingly communicative, open, warm, and worked very hard to be sure the kids were comfortable. They meet the kids on their level and consistently nurture and support them. They foster an environment that prioritizes free play, associative learning, outdoor time, and social and life skills. My kid, who we were VERY worried about heading to school as he is such a homebody absolutely adored it there. He loved going and truly flourished here. It is so rare to find a school or daycare environment that truly enacts their principles to foster mental, emotional, and social growth in their charges. It was such a comforting, nurturing, and supportive place for him as a student and for us as a family. Highest possible recommendation!
My two young boys have attended Colonial Village for almost 2 years now. We love it there! We have always felt a great amount of love and respect is given to our kids by the staff. They give priority to let the kids be creative, play, dance and get an abundance of outdoor time all year round. It's a bit of an "old school" mentality that I think many daycares and schools have become too far removed! They recognize children's strengths and work on their weaknesses. We will miss this school when the time comes to move on.
My 3 year old daughter attended this daycare for only 3 months. She always threw a terrible fit when I would drop her off. She is a very spirited child, undeniably, but she is also very sweet and extremely bright. I am always very inquisitive about her day when she comes home from school and was particularly alarmed when she complained one day that her teacher had pushed her down. The next day when I went to drop her off I talked with the owner, Sherry, about what my daughter mentioned and she proceeded to lay into my child as if I weren't standing right there!! She literally yelled, "I didn't push you down, but I sure wanted to!!" I was very disappointed and concerned about my daughter's well being from that point forward and promptly starting working on our exit strategy. Within the month we had found a new school...I know options are limited in this area, but this is not the place you want to take a chance on with your young children.
I had to put a star on this review to submit it but it doesn't deserve a star at all. I sent 2 children to this daycare. I will honestly say I didn't always feel something was right about it, but couldn't prove anything. They say they are strict... but my son was always sad in the morning to go. But if you have a young boy you probably know they can't express everything at such a young age. I am sure he went into "survival mode" but he developed the thought that he was a bad boy there. And that's the impression they gave me too. He is a Freshman now and just recently revealed how he was coloring one day. His "teacher" picked up his paper, showed to the class, making fun of how bad it was and proceeded to make him stand for a long period of time, after ripping up his paper. This same teacher when I would pick him up would some days be laughing and some days not look up nor say a word. I regret terribly that I didn't follow my instincts enough. But there was a sweet cook there in the morning, and at times another teacher that made me hopeful of the situation. But it is definitely a place that I would not recommend.
I, along with my brother and sister, went to colonial village for many years growing up and it was honestly very rewarding. I was always so excited to go there every morning. It was very well organized with equal time for playing and learning. I highly recommend this for any and all kids.
