What Parents Say

Coastal Community Preschool receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents praising the caring staff, play-based curriculum, nature-focused activities, and strong child development outcomes. One negative review raises serious concerns about communication, staff conduct, inclusion practices, and how a child with behavioral challenges was handled. The facility maintains consistently low student-to-teacher ratios and employs credentialed ECE staff.

My daughter started in their youngest classroom, classroom 1 and we are going on our second year here with the school. I have been very pleased with the open ended play the teachers set up daily (they always switch things up - anywhere from sensory items, to monitor skill development activities, to art). I really like the overall structure of the classes - they all have a consistent routine for the kids so that they know what to expect. The teachers are kind, caring and all follow the same method and language when providing limits/direction for the kids. I also felt that the school environment really helped my daughter with social interactions - something she struggled with a lot before. I've seen a beautiful blossoming of her coming out of her shell, and communicating more as a result. A lot of the important things they teach them at school (washing hands after using the potty, staying seated while eating, etc.) has all translated nicely at our house as well. It honestly has helped us greatly in this area - as well as when we got serious with potty training. The Director, Stephanie is great and really cares about the teachers, kids and community. Communication has been great and the resources they provide when a kid and parent are struggling to navigate difficult developmental steps have also been great. I highly recommend this school!

As first-time parents, we feel so lucky that our daughter started her learning journey at Coastal Community Preschool. For what you pay in tuition, the quality of teaching and care is fantastic. The program is wonderfully nature-based; kids spend tons of time outside in the big yard, have adventure days, play in the mud kitchen, and use natural materials for art and crafts. The enrichment activities are great too: yoga, drumming, puppet shows, and cultural share days. But what we love most is the philosophy. The teachers focus on emotional regulation and confidence, and they treat kids with real respect and agency -- like capable little humans. Every teacher and director genuinely pays attention to each child. The staff are kind, professional, and all have ECE credentials. As new parents, we've honestly learned so much from them about raising our kid.

My daughter has been with Coastal Community Preschool for 2 years now. She has grown so much thanks to all the teachers and staff. They have been amazing to our family and have offered so much help.

Teachers admitted to lying to me about my son's day because they do not like to discuss challenges with families. Acted incredulous when I told them I wanted to know what happened, even if it was not positive. A decision was made after 6 days that he could not attend the program with no opportunity to address his behavior as information was not shared proir to this decision. The classroom teacher cut off all communication with me and my son's father at this point, with the full support of the director. I was not offered a refund on my deposit, intended to secure a place for 10 months of attendance. I did not conceal my child's needs, and administration did not request any additional information regarding his needs post enrollment. He had just attended headstart for one full school year with no issue. Teachers take time in the classroom to braid children's hair elaborately, and complain that they are not able to supervise adequately to keep children safe. I watched children hit my child repeatedly with a shovel and the staff were chatting amongst thatselves and did not respond. In the short time my child attended CCP, I saw a teacher lay down a little boy who looked to be 3 on a towel on the bathroom floor and berate him for having had an accident. He was not offered any comfort, or gentle guidance. He was questioned, repeatedly and harshly and the adult stood over him, "Why didn't you come to the bathroom? This is disgusting!" Additionally, there is no diversity curriculum in place. When they take their weekly feildtrip to the park, The teachers shoo children away from children with special needs at the park, instead of modeling acceptance and inclusion. This school states in their handbook that they serve students with special needs, but they define lactose intolerance as a "special need"

This preschool is unlike any other we experienced. Every day my kiddo returns home, she is filled with a wealth of knowledge and fun stories of everything she did during the day. The teachers really care about the children and I have seen each one make a special bond with my child. The directors are active in everything that goes on in the school and really plan for the future and look ahead on how to make the school a great place.
