What Parents Say
Parents praise the MDO/preschool program for being affordable, educational, and staffed with caring, communicative teachers who support child development across all age groups. The facility is described as a welcoming community with strong programming, though one parent noted recent concerns about homeless individuals in the area and requested increased security measures during school hours.
For those looking for a great, affordable childcare program the MDO/School is great. I have put both my children through this program and are still there. All the teachers are committed to helping them learn new skills and as they get older they have science lessons and learn so much! I love to hear all the new things they learn from beaver dams to planets and so much more. The infant class has helped both my babies from eating skills to crawling and walking and talking. I genuinely wished my youngest could have stayed in there longer, because they are such loving teachers. They have been such a blessing to my family, and I whole heartedly trust them with anything. Every teacher I’ve worked with have been great communicators to let me know if my child is struggling with something or are sick or having issues with another child in school. The teachers also schedule phone meetings to discuss your child’s progress. Just make sure to sign up for them! We have been through every class (almost) and I have yet to have a bad experience. It is a great little community, and we are thankful for them and their leadership. I will say the homeless issue is a thing. Maybe I show up too late to really notice anyone, but I do see one specific woman camping out on the other side of the church. But being a homeless woman is incredibly hard to find a place where you feel safe. The church needs to focus more efforts on security for the kids to make parents feel safer. Having lived in downtown for a long time before moving down here, I have actually seen one man in the area that used to be on the streets near us 10 years ago! The city of Houston or the police I assume are bringing them over city line, and they seem to want to stay here… we should serve and help the homeless 100%. The church needs to hire a security guard at least for while school is in session to give the parents extra assurance for safety. I need to learn more about the church’s reach out program before I say anything else, but this is a new concern as of this year. It was not like this before. Will be happy to give an update in the future.
This review is directed toward the MDO and preschool program. The church allows homeless people to hang out on campus which is a direct conflict to the MDO and preschool program. I have personally witnessed altercations between staff and the homeless, many of them set up "camps" on church grounds and some of them actually have dogs and I have seen them smoking. I felt uncomfortable dropping my infant off at school and felt I had to watch my back walking to and from my car. I have nothing against ministering to the homeless community, but again, you can't have individuals that are statistically more susceptible to substance abuse and mental illness interfacing with children. If they want to have this go on, they need to have law enforcement on campus as they would at a school. Additionally, it took several months for us to be notified by the teachers that our infant had been miserable every day in the classroom. It was upsetting that they did not try to partner with us to make her days better. We ended up unenrolling her and finding new care. Follow your gut and do your research.
Rev Preston Morgan is amazing! Such compassionate, caring, gracious and loving congregation that has Christ in their hearts. Wonderful sermons and so many great fellowship and volunteer opportunities. CLUMC supports the Clear Lake community with their presence, gifts, and service. Love my church home.
Came here last year for the Easter service. We were completely ignored by the church staff. We weren't greeted at the door when we entered or when we left. The church staff wouldn't even make eye contact with us on our way in and on our way out. I've never been to a church and felt so unwelcome. This is not the kind of church I'd ever want to be a part of. My wife and I feel a lot of negitive judgement. It's not very Christan to judge. I will pray for this church.
Wonderful music program. Lots of volunteer oppurtunities. Be open to approaching staff and ushers or members to become involved or simply write it down on the sheet provided with the program. Some one will contact you. That is how my family became members 😊
