City Of Hialeah Babcock Creative Learning & Play Program

Babcock Park has quite a long history with the city of Hialeah. The first community center, baseball field, and pool in Hialeah were all built by the Works Progress Administration after the Great Depression to put people back to work. It opened in 1939 as Hunter Lyon Park, named after a wealthy insurance executive, sportsman, and race horse owner with connections to Hialeah Race Track. In 1944 the name of the park was changed to honor Benny Babcock, a Hialeah resident who enlisted in the Marines in 1940. He became the first Hialeah resident to be killed in action at the age of 22 during World War II at Guadalcanal on November 2, 1942. Today Babcock Park is a generous 18.5 acres filled with amenities beloved by generations of the community. These include two lighted tennis courts, seven youth baseball fields, two lighted indoor racquetball courts, two lighted basketball courts, a newer covered playground, community swimming pool, out door exercise equipment, recreation building, LHB baseball training academy, the Curtiss Library, and police substation. I enjoyed the paved walking trail that winds throughout the park. With its deep roots in the community, generations grew up in Hialeah with fond memories of Babcock Park. It continues to bring people together today for games, swimming, play, and outdoor recreation.

Park is very clean and the playground is safe and espacious for kids to play and let off steam.

I use to work in the area. Park is always clean. Parking not so go. Kids play baseball during the season and there are a like of stores in the area. Its not a playground.

A lot of fun at the pool!! Love the staff team. Everyone is really nice. Special shout out to mayda the lifeguard she was super nice and fun to talk to!!

This park used to be amazing back in the day when The Hernandez Family ran it. Ever since then the park has never been the same. Whoever is taking charge now has really done the bare minimum. The park on sundays u mine as well not even go because although they say they open from 9:30-5:30pm the main bathrooms the park has are never opener and remain locked all of Sunday it’s full day.. I used to come every Sunday to excessive and 2 times in the week as well and this is the 9th Sunday I come and bathrooms are locked .. very very rarley threes ever a Sunday that I find it open i’m not quite sure why this is happening. I’m not sure if the staff that works on Sunday since they’re probably the only ones here they decide to not open it that way they don’t have to clean it or close it one less thing to do for closing not sure but most of the time is close once or twice that I’ve come it’s open. I’m not exactly understanding the situation with that why are there some select Sundays that did you open most of the other ones they don’t? I’m just not gonna come on Sunday. And when I took pride and saying that with the Hernandez family, this park was too much better. I’m not just saying because this works from my mouth. I’m saying it because I play baseball here and I was in this park every single day as of age 6 till like 15 or 16 years old every single day I still live four houses Down from the park and the difference is monumental. Oh wait but there’s more I almost forgot now they’re only opening on Sundays two gates not even the main gates are opened. They just open the two gates that are closest to the office on the back by the pool because it’s more convenient and they remain every other gate to enter to the park, locked with chain on Sundays Even the parts main entrance the one on E. 5 St.
