The parking permit system is incredibly outdated and bureaucratic. For some permits, you must pay in person, however, the office often randomly closes early with no notice, even though you must renew your spot before a certain date to keep it. Unhelpful service on the phone when calling with questions.
We worked with Tedda, Wendy as Heather Majano (among others) to setup a Greetings from East Lansing mural at the back of Harrison Roadhouse in their parking lot. The public art committee team was a pleasure to work with and we couldn’t have been more excited to paint here in East Lansing finally! Thank you all for such a warm welcome and adding your city as a stop on our nationwide tour.
Pulling permits at East Lansing City Hall is an absolute nightmare. I've never encountered such a frustrating and inefficient process. What should be a straightforward task has become a bureaucratic obstacle course. First, the online system is clunky and difficult to navigate. Finding the correct forms is like searching for a needle in a haystack, and the instructions are vague at best. Then, even if you manage to decipher the website, actually submitting anything electronically feels like a gamble. The system frequently crashes or glitches, forcing you to start the entire process over again. If you dare to venture in person, be prepared for long waits and unhelpful staff. The few staff members available seem indifferent. Questions are met with shrugs or generic answers, and any deviation from the standard procedure seems to throw the entire system into chaos. I've spent countless hours trying to get a simple permit, only to be met with roadblocks and red tape at every turn. It's clear that the city's permitting process is severely outdated and in desperate need of reform. The lack of clear communication, the antiquated technology, and the seemingly apathetic attitude of some staff members create an incredibly hostile environment for anyone trying to improve their property or start a business in East Lansing. Frankly, it's enough to make you want to give up entirely. Avoid this place at all costs if you value your time and sanity.
They do not accept electronic filing for taxes. They’re in the dark ages. Making it the problem of the residents and the people who work in the city. Why would a local government want to punish the people it represents? Still trying to jump through hoops to give them my income tax from 2020. They do not seem to have a way to pay online. Have incurred penalties and late fees even though I am willing and have been trying to pay my taxes. Seems by design. Heartless operation they’ve created here.
The East Lansing city hall, especially the treasurer department, seems to have a very random time of opening and closing. They open and close whenever they want, with zero consideration of tax payers’ time.
