I can't say enough how much we've enjoyed having our son attend CLC. Amazing teacher, amazing space, amazing community. I love that they encourage parent involvement, incorporate green practices, and have a play-based curriculum. Outdoor time every day is wonderful as well. We've re-enrolled for next year, and my younger daughter can't wait until she is old enough.
We've been involved with the school for 2 years now and are about to embark on our third year with the program. I've looked at many other places and nothing met our needs as well as this place. The teacher is phenomenal at meeting each child at their level and helping to raise each in their own way at their own pace. I love the gentle practices of teaching conflict resolution in a way that doesn't shame any child but helps them find solutions on their own. The teacher trained in Waldorf and Montessori and has picked bits of each to create a unique child-centered program. She teaches UU principles in an age appropriate way and there is a sweet secular blessing the children sing before their organic home-made snack provided by the parent assistant each ay. The structure is very simple, with singing transitions to each activity. There is about 45 minutes of open play time in the classroom, and provided it isn't terribly wet, cold, or windy, the children play outside for about a half hour after snack. Younger children that are potty ready are welcomed without diapers but with extra clothes and the teacher provides extra support to use the toilet several times during the day. Is was extremely helpful to each of my boys as they just didn't want to give up the diaper. She made it ok and more fun to just use the "teeny toilet". The cost is very affordable and I loved having so much hands on involvement with my children's early education. It helped me to understand and appreciate them more and I feel I grew as a parent, too.
