I was able to attend a choir sing-along one weekend, followed by a Narnia live experience. The community at this church was very generous, kind, and thoughtful in all they did to serve my family and so many other guests. It’s clear that many folks here are sincere in following Christ and are living out their faith. Thankful for them!

I attended Christ Lutheran Church in the past, and my experiences there left me feeling excluded, disrespected, and ultimately unwelcome. The culture I encountered was not one of compassion or inclusion, but instead one that tolerated inappropriate behavior and minimized the dignity of those who didn’t fit a narrow standard. At a group trip to Oregon called ‘sixth grade rocks,’ there would be mandatory group circles at the end of the night to talk about faith. When asked to participate in a group circle, I shared my perspective, only to have my words twisted and used against me. I said something personal about my own goals along the lines of “I should just try to pray more. A camp leader who goes by the name Thelma stopped to correct me and say “It’s not just a prayer.” I didn’t add the word ‘just’ to diminish the meaning of prayer, yet she interpreted it as such. This misrepresentation dismissed my voice and left me feeling unequal to those around me, simply because my understanding of faith did not match a leader’s expectations. She said this in front of a group of girls and made me look uninformed as if I wasn’t taking it seriously. The behavior of certain individuals associated with this church further reflects poorly on its environment. For example, a staff member who goes by the name Lola works in the nursery at this church and frequently attends on Sundays. This individual who I attended high school with created a reputation of bullying and harassing younger students to intimidate them when no authority was present. Seeing such a person placed in a trusted role within a church raises serious concerns. My discomfort with this church began early. At Vacation Bible School in sixth grade, I decided after one day that I didn’t want to continue in VBS that week. Instead of respecting my choice, a leader named Michelle speculated to other adults that my decision was because a boy wasn’t there implying I had a crush on him. I was only 11 years old at the time, and I found it deeply inappropriate that an adult would reduce my decision to something so dismissive and untrue as well as relay this to other adults. On another occasion, during a church trip to go snowboarding, I chose to sit on the bus rather than in a van for the drive home. Despite the fact that seating was first-come, first-served, I was made to feel unwelcome by peers sitting on the bus as well. Due to the tension this for some reason created, a leader that goes by Lori attempted to “solve” the situation by rotating children between vehicles. She took my small change in seating and decided to punish everyone, further humiliating me and making it a bigger problem than it needed to be. Rather than addressing the exclusion I faced, their decision amplified it, leaving me embarrassed and alienated during what was supposed to be a positive, community-building experience. These repeated experiences of being misrepresented, dismissed, excluded, and judged are why I chose to walk away from Christ Lutheran Church and never return. I cannot recommend this church to anyone seeking an environment of respect and compassion.

This was my first visit and I was so impressed. The church fosters connections between members and visitors with comfortable lobby seating, name badges and friendly people. It is a vibrant church that's great for all ages.

This is a beautiful church in the Lakewood area near Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The sanctuary is large and beautifully arranged. The people are very nice and their are many activities and amenities at the facility. I was there for a funeral and I have not attended any other services their.
