What Parents Say
This Chicago-based center offers childcare alongside broader community services including tutoring, employment assistance, and immigration support. Most reviews are highly positive, praising multilingual staff, quality food, and a welcoming environment for low-income and immigrant families. However, a few negative reviews cite staff conduct concerns and poor communication/responsiveness.
They do not return messages. They host a clinic six times a year according to their website and other websites (CVLS), but they are locked, closed, and unresponsive to calls at the stated time. When an organization advertises a legal clinic that only runs six times a year and people rearrange work and travel to attend, being closed and unreachable is not a small oops. It has real downstream consequences.
Worst after-school program ever. The hallways have a smell, horrible tutoring, no rooms for studying, and the hallways are always loud. On top of that, Chinese American Service League does not even try to do any of their goals. I have been here for months and haven't seen one of these goals being accomplished. Do better.
I invite all donors and sponsors to take a close look at the inside of this organization. It's unfortunate that they have a wonderful mission and help the community but the people inside are paying a heavy price. Turnover here is very high, there is no accountability, management must do something otherwise this organization will head south quickly. For all those comments about rudeness to the customers, frankly I'm not surprised. It is sad to see, but it is the result of a toxic work environment. If anyone here is not happy, management is the one to blame.
This is a great place with a variety of resources for kids, families, seniors, and more. They offer employment help, immigration services and a lot of activities for seniors and kids including dance, painting, homework help, math and English tutoring and art. Most of the staff is bilingual or trilingual and they are able to offer assistance to a wide variety of people and work with low income families as well.
The receptionists are so rude. They treat Cantonese speakers and Mandarin speakers totally opposite. They don't care about Mandarin speakers at all. Treat people the way you want to be treated. The receptionists should be fired because they don't know how to respect people. The government pays CASL money is to help people not giving other people a hard time and attitude.
