What Parents Say
Children's Resource Fund receives mixed reviews with significant disparities in parent experiences. While some parents praise the school's academic focus and staff for building children's confidence, others report serious concerns about handling of special needs children, lack of compassion, inadequate support for students with autism, and poor conflict resolution.
Our daughter has autism but is a high functioning autistic child. She was at this school for 3 years. In the beginning they seemed very understanding of my daughter’s needs and behaviors and were committed to work with her in order to help her advance since she has a lot of potential to be as typical as possible as any other neurotypical child. During her time here, we tried various medications to help control her “bad” behaviors, for which some of her teachers complained numerous times about, not realizing that these behaviors are more pronounced on girls on the spectrum than boys, and you as teacher should understand that fact and try other avenues to help the child instead of asking the parents to “try a new medication” because she’s “unbearable”. In her last year, they did not allow her to go play outside with other kids during their break unless her RBT was present, and in the morning they would also not allow her to go inside the school while being dropped off as she was accustomed to, unless again her RBT was present. So on the days where her RBT was late, she would cry in sadness in the car waiting to go inside the school like the other children. This and many other unacceptable actions by the school staff caused our daughter immense emotional distress and suffering, and now she is doing a lot better in her new school with much less medication. Here’s the takeaway for the teachers: if you signed up for this job to work with children on the spectrum, you should be a very patient, compassionate and understanding person. If you’re doing this for the money, then go somewhere else and don’t hurt anymore children this way. Also we were big contributors to the annual school fundraising efforts and not even a show of gratitude towards our daughter was made. Please I beg you, if you’re a parent of a special needs child, and are not economically affluent (rich), do not consider this school. There are many other much better options out there for children of working folks out there.
I had a bad experience with this school, my daughter was going through bullying and they turned around and expelled her. They were initially very helpful and communicative. Due to circumstances that I don't fully want to get into, they asked my daughter to leave their school and this was a shock. I think that this could have been handled better and I could have been allowed more time and an opportunity for my daughter to improve in various ways. Update: It's been about a year since they expelled my daughter from Children's Resources. Ultimately, I ended up taking my daughter to Atlantis Academy instead. This was a much better fit for her in more than one way. Instead of being with one teacher throughout the entire day, Atlantis has about six different class periods for 45 minutes with different teachers. It's a special needs school as well but much larger and better organized. The staff are well-trained for handling special needs children and always show respect, nurturing, compassion, and professionalism for both the parents and children that attend their school. The Director and Head of Teachers frequently communicate with me and each other about goals and ongoing progress with my daughter. Even though I still deal with challenges when it comes to my daughter, the atmosophere is collaborative, understanding, and patient when it comes to parents and their children. So I would say if you're having a hard time with your special needs child, you might want to look into Atlantis Academy. I was pleasantly surprised and although my daughter was forced to leave Children's Resources, we were welcomed in with open arms to Atlantis Academy. My daughter has had a great experience with Atlantis Academy after being asked to leave Children's Resources.
What an awesome experience my son had at the school. He learned who he was and discovered that he can do more than he felt he could do. CRF taught my son to have self confidence, respect and to trust himself. It also taught my son that his condition was not who he was. I loved the school so much and it taught us so much in the time we were there, that til this day we talk about it and thank Ms. LINDA, Gigi, Ms. Erika and all the staff who assisted us in getting him to believe in himself again. Thank you so much CRF. Leonela and Nathaniel
Look no further, this is the place to take your child. This is not a daycare; its definitely a place if you want your child to excel academically. They involve the parents in your child's learning experience. We plan to keep our child here until 5th grade.
Please, look into all of your options before enrolling your child in this school. Gigi Del Valle and Dr. Erica allowed my son to be called "an animal " by a parent and they just stood there. They have no heart.
