What Parents Say
Children's Nest Early Childhood Education Center in Merrick receives highly polarized reviews. Multiple parents praise the caring staff, child development outcomes, and positive learning environment, while others report aggressive staff behavior, poor communication, inappropriate discipline practices, and unresponsiveness to parent inquiries.
We are beyond blessed to have picked this school! My son was there for two years for pre-school and pre-k. When I first registered him, he barely spoke. We were worried he had a delay, but within a month being at Children’s Nest he was exploding with words. The teachers and staff are extremely patient and kind, and very understanding about personal matters and families. My son is now in kindergarten, and he still says he misses his teachers and friends from Children’s Nest. He was extremely prepared going into Kindergarten and his teachers are impressed with how much he already knows! They have beautiful ceremonies and graduations that we will never forget! Thank you Children’s Nest!
So absolutely appalled with this so-called “school”. My nephew is such a sweet and caring boy who just needed to be approached with care and patience. Instead the staff’s aggressive manner only frustrated him making him feel like he was constantly doing something wrong and my brother and sister were emailed constantly and called to pick him up early. They finally kicked him out saying they couldn’t handle him. I have 3 children myself and have never heard of a school constantly hassling parents like this . Thankfully he is now FLOURISHING in his new school. He hasn’t had any outbursts or tantrums… NOT ONE and it’s been one week. Shame on Children’s Nest for treating him so poorly. It was truly a blessing in disguise because he is approached with patience and love and is so much happier coming home and throughout the day. Children’s Nest really needs to reevaluate their teaching techniques… or lack their of.
Words can’t express how disappointed I am with the staff. My son is 4. He receives speech and SEIT services. Yes, he’s had some challenges but they weren’t significant. They just needed redirection. Instead, for any small misbehave he would be sent to the main office to do nothing, or has been isolated from his class, making him watch how everyone is enjoying their day while he’s penalized …. For just being a toddler! Unfortunately I didn’t know the extremity of how aggressive the staff is until weeks after it’s been happened. He would come home stressed and angry and tantrum. While on the weekends he was a completely different child. It made no sense! In the last few weeks of him being in Nest, my son has been accused of things that all 4 years old boys do. In return, instead of proper communication and proper feedback, my son has been called autistic (by an regular “teacher” uncertified to diagnose), dumb (indirectly) and the director has called me frazzled sounding as if there’s a hurricane (when my son only wanted more milk). Hilow unprofessional! They have messaged me “ stories “DAILY ….an obscene amount of times for parents who work full time , claiming that he’s been a terror. It came to the point where our time at work was just unreliable and compromised. Nothing made sense! Who he was at home was NOT what they claimed him to be. I even experimented and took him to various playgroups ….still not the same boy they described. Clearly he was trying to communicate with the way he knows and send us messages by acting out. After weeks of frustration and speaking to staff everyday we realized it was THEM! They were penalizing him as if he were a teenager. Shame on them for not letting him sit the way he needed to at circle time. They accused me of making excuses for him when we worked him everyday and every night and every minute! We communicated constantly with them on how we can do trial and error. We reached out to all who work with him. I can’t tell you how many times he came home with scratch marks and bruises of his own …..not to mention the constant poop in his underwear that no one cared to help him with (yes I did tell them about it a few times). At his last week, he came into the car after pick up and said “they don’t want me here anymore”. How would my 4 year old know that?!?!?! It was devastating to here that caretakers made him feel that way! I’m so sorry I sent him there to begin with. I went based on the reviews. I shouldn’t have done that. Now, after my son had left….wow!! What a difference! Clearly it Nest. He doesn’t have ANY of those issues presently. So clearly he was trying to tell me and my husband that he didn’t want to be there. We just didn’t see it. Coincidentally, I met 2 others mothers at a play group who’s children went to Nest. They had similar scenarios where they accused mom of ridiculous things! Only escalating the situation and stressing out the children. Driving them out basically. Shame on this school. Shame on the staff. Shame on them! I don’t know how other parents are still not seeing it. I’m sure they paid for deleting all their bad reviews. Haven’t seen any new ones.
I absolutely LOVED this daycare! As a first time mom, I was so scared to put my little one in daycare. Children's Nest (Merrick) made it so easy for us. My daughter was always so happy to go to "school" she learned a lot and she loved all her teacher as I did. I want to give a HUGE thank you to Ms. Soranyi, Ms Jesse, Ms Brenda, Ms Jennifer, Ms Lauren and Ms. Bianca for being my daughters teachers and treating her so great and teaching her so much! Our overall experience was AMAZING! unfortunately do to making a BIG move, we had to say good bye to Children's Nest, but I would recommend them to anyone that I know that still lives in NY. WE LOVE YOU GUYS and WE MISS YOU ALL! Love Maria, Rich and Emily <3
