What Parents Say
Parents consistently praise Children's Garden as a hidden gem outdoor park in Columbia with themed gardens and interactive play areas. The fully fenced space with single entrance is noted as safe for young children, and the well-maintained grounds feature multiple themed sections including butterfly gardens, reading areas, sand pits, and trails. Families appreciate the peaceful, intentionally-designed environment and shaded areas for picnicking.
It took us a while to figure out where the garden was- it is off Clemson, basically across from the Walgreens. There is a gravel parking lot just turn in and go left- the entrance is a break in the fence on the left (they lock it when closed). Walk across the field (there’s a small gazebo, a porta potty you can use, a tool shed) and the park is straight ahead behind a fenced area. Really sweet door to enter. This park has been a magical safe space to take our kids while we’ve been in South Carolina. We almost always had it to ourselves, and it is a fully fenced off park with only one entrance (with a big swinging door) which makes it so much more relaxing to handle a toddler and a young kid with autism who likes to run off. There are so many interactive themed sections with so many educational components built in for kids and adults alike. We love the little free library in the reading section that has the alphabet on the fence and a swinging bench. The tunnels and balance beams and bird house section with the giant birdhouse for play. The two sand pits and all of the toys. The frog slide. Every single way you turn there is a new adventure to dive into. We have spent hours and hours here (despite limited open hours, go morning or lunch and no weekends). It was clearly build with so much intention and love and maintained by the sweetest people, leaving the fairy garden put back together and the sand pits freshly organized and raked with a heart drawn in the middle. Thank you to those who put time and effort into building and maintaining this precious gem of a park, it is truly an inspiring space that I hope will continue to thrive for years and years to come.
This place was so cool. My 4 year old really enjoyed it and so did I. Beautiful gardens with a lot to explore. Easy to push a stroller everywhere. Beautiful butterfly garden and reading garden and so much more. Lots of shaded area and places to sit or have a picnic.
Once Upon a Time this place is probably a beautiful and a lot of things for kids to see and learn. but now it is unmaintained dead plants overgrown Garden Bella still a lot of area to run around good for taking the dog or kids to run around see the lake.
The Children's Garden has finally opened in the new location. It is beside the farmers market, and the parking is just off Clemson road. It is a perfect spot to take the kids to burn off a little energy. There are many themed gardens and places for the kids to safely run and play. Take a snack or lunch and have a picnic on a blanket or at the tables under the shade. The Friends of the children garden have done a great job re establishing this place for the community. Thanks to the volunteers that helped!
My daughter enjoyed visiting and hiking the trails however we saw something quite large floating in the lake. An employee told us there is an alligator in the lake and that it had eaten someones small dog. Please take care when letting children and animals enjoy the area near the water.
