What Parents Say
Children's Academy of Newnan receives mostly positive reviews praising staff attentiveness, care, and cleanliness, with parents noting their children settle in quickly and feel safe. However, several negative reviews raise serious concerns about classroom safety practices, lack of structure and engagement in the one-year-old classroom, and staff conduct issues.
My child has attended here since she was 2 years old and is now almost 4. This daycare has helped so much with potty training, weaning the passy, etc. I am one to watch the camera like a hawk and not gives me so much peace. I have an office job so I keep it posted up. We love it here and Mrs. Ambur the director !
I can’t complain at all about this place.. Our children have been here 2 years or so and we never had an issue with anyone.. the Leaders are great as well as every teacher that our kids have had.. they all love the children and they care for them as if it were their own! Mrs.Ambur and Portia or the best Directors! They greet the kids every morning with a smile and whatever gesture is necessary at the moment! There’s moments my kids aren’t having the best moment but once they walk in everything changes! My favorite thing about them is they know every child’s name and who their parents are.. that’s a lot of kids and parents but they know..I absolutely love this place and I couldn’t see my kids anywhere else! We are blessed to be here! Bring your kids you won’t regret it!
My son has been going to CAN since April and we absolutely love it! Every single teacher there knows me and my son by name and speak to us every morning. Most importantly I feel my son is safe at CAN. Any time I call to see how his day is going or how he is feeling they are more than happy to check for me with no fuss. And the facility is spotless! They are always cleaning and disinfecting the rooms and toys which is great! I cannot see me letting my child go to any other daycare! As a parent I understand that no one will take as great care of my son than me but CAN exceeds my expectations!
I watched the cameras like a hawk every time that my son was there. I never once saw any type of activities or learning going on. I did however, watch my son be forced to lay on a mat during what was was supposed to be a one hour nap time for almost 2 and half hours on multiple days. I also watched the staff completely ignore the children while using their cell phones. And during one of those times that the staff was ignoring the children I watched a child running on top of the table for a few minutes before she even realized what was going on. So I would suggest watching that live feed if your child attends this daycare
My one-year old son attended this school for a total of 5 days before we pulled him out. I think this school has a ton of potential, but they are nowhere near that potential right now. They have cameras in the classrooms, which is a wonderful way to watch what goes on in the classrooms after you drop off your child. Kendra, the Director, is exceptionally nice and very easy to talk to. However, I feel that she is not open to acknowledging the issues that are present within the classrooms. My husband and I notified her of issues that we observed in the classrooms, both on the cameras and in person. While she was open to hearing the feedback, the behaviors we saw of the teachers were explained and/or excused. In the end, nothing was resolved. These are the issues we observed during our short time there: 1. In the one year old classroom, teachers were swinging the children by their elbows to put them onto the mats for nap time. 2. In the one year old classroom, teachers were pulling children down by their arms to get them to stay on their mats. 3. In the one year old classroom, a teacher pulled a child by his leg or foot to get him to stay on his mat. 4. In the one year old classroom, a teacher was putting up the mats after nap time and hit a child in the face with the mat. She did not go back to the child and make sure the child was okay. 5. In the one year old classroom, a teacher dropped a child onto a mat. When I observed this, I immediately called the school to let them know what I just watched. This observation was excused as saying that the child was reaching for her pacifier and slipped out of the teachers arms. I did not believe this because (a) there was no indication from the movement of the teachers arms that the child slipped and (b) the teacher did not check the child to make sure she was okay, if she did indeed slip out of her arms. 6. Our son was bitten by another little boy on his second day of class. We understood and still understand that this is part of toddler development at this age, but there is so little structure in the room that the children are often bored and play by themselves. When the bite happened, our son and this other child were playing over a truck. Teachers were not watching when our son received the bite. 7. There is very little structure in the room. This was a huge concern of ours because children at this age thrive on structure. When we continually brought this issue up with Kendra, she explained that one year old's cannot sit that long and they've set up the classroom so they can run, play, and get all of their energy out. It is true that you typically cannot get a one year old to sit for 20 minutes, but they can sit for a few minutes and listen to the teacher. The few times we saw a teacher sit with the children to read to them or dance with them, the children FLOCKED to the teacher; like they were just waiting on someone to do something with them! 8. At least in the one year old classroom, because there is such little structure, this is basically baby-sitting. The teachers do a phenomenal job with cleaning the room - they are always cleaning and it's great to see that - but there's such little interaction with the children. On one afternoon, I observed my son trying to hand a truck to one of the teachers, who was just standing there, and she continually ignored him and never played with him. He just wanted someone to play with him! It broke my heart. 9. The one year old classroom is very empty. There aren't many toys, centers, books, rugs, etc. It feels and looks like a hospital room or doctor's office. It's a HUGE room, so there is so much potential there, but it's just void of one year old comforts. I really think that with some serious overhaul and oversight from the owner of this school, the Academy could be a gold mine, but they have a very tall mountain to climb in order to get there.
