COOS is a fantastic preschool within Westchester! The teachers are truly so wonderful and have such a gift with making their students feel safe, loved, and encouraged. We love that the campus is tucked way within the neighborhood. The classrooms are HUGE and the kids all cycle between 3 different outdoor play areas to keep things new and fresh. The views from the school are unbelievable as well, definitely adds to the ambiance of being tucked away in a gorgeous little pocket of the neighborhood!
Excellent School with Amazing Teachers and Spacious Play Areas. From the moment we enrolled my daughter everything has been incredibly smooth. My daughter has learned so much during her time here, thanks to the dedicated and nurturing teachers. They truly love and care about the children, creating a warm and supportive environment for learning. What sets this school apart from others is its large classrooms and play areas. The view from the play areas is breathtaking, providing a perfect backdrop for children to enjoy their outdoor activities. It's wonderful to see the school prioritizing ample space for children to play and explore.
We love love Coos! My son who is now 8 went there for 4 years my daughter who is currently 4 is there now. After covid, there were changes to the directors that caused some bumps in the road. We still stayed at coos since the space and ideal location ( tucked away from the main street with a beautiful view ) that coos offered was better than other preschools in the Westchester neighborhoods. Glad to say there is new director now who is working on positive changes for the school. The current teachers are also amazing and so caring. We definitely so lucky to have the teachers we have now.My daughter is having fun there being creative but also knows her Abcs and numbers. She is making so many great friendships there as well. They opened an infant class recently and I wished we had that as an option before. Take a chance and tour the school!
This is a very biased review written nearly 50 years after the fact, so none of this applies to the church (that I never attended) or the school (where I spent the worst year of my life) at present. After attending Westchester Lutheran School for 3rd grade, I was asked to find another private school, and this is the one they recommended because all the other private protestant schools sent all of their problem kids (especially bullies) here. I was small for my age and already a target for bullies; then I was in a school consisting of about 90% bullies and was their favorite play thing. Every parent should advise their kids to stand up to bullies--and that's doable when there's one or two of them. But what about when a dozen come at you simultaneously? This was regular treatment for me while attending this school. My only refuge was to hide if possible down by the baseball field. The teachers could not have avoided knowing what was going on and did zero to stop it or to help the targets of abuse. The finale of my personal hell came with a push down the cement stairs leading to the baseball field. I had never been so happy to matriculate. Hopefully, the pastor and teachers that allowed this to happen are now burning in Hell.
