This year has by far been the worst yr for my family and I. I heard about community action during a can food drive they were having at priceless iga. A kinda tall skinny girl and a short fat one (both African American) told me they could help me after I told them about the situation I was in. They were such nice girls, they didn't judge me or my situation. They told me what I needed and where to come to get the help. A few weeks later my lights was shut off. I was going through my purse to scrap up anything I could and I came across the card the ladies gave me from the grocery store. I came in community action frantically, I was crying so hard I could barely catch my breath. Stopped at the front counter when I met the sweetest, most kindest, older African American lady. That lady was truly God sent. She gave me tissues and calmed me down before sending me to the back where they helped with light bills. once I reached the back I noticed it was one of the same ladies from the grocery store. She told me they were done taking walk-ins for the day but she would get her supervisor because she is the one that could decide if they could get me in that day. The supervisor comes to the room and I explained to her my situation and even though she looked mean she was a sweetheart. she said since they didn't have anyone else at the moment they could get me in. After waiting 15-20 minutes I was called into another room where I seen the other girl from the grocery store. She was so sweet. Not only did she tell me how much they paid she also told me other places that could help me if I needed more assistance. after I told her I wasn't from here she gave me a community guide on different places that helps with different things. My overall experience with those ladies was overall great. They did an amazing job without being judgmental

I had a appointment at 1230. I was on time. I had picked up the regular electric bill. I needed the cut off notice so I went to Warren Rural Electric. I was gone 8 minits. The same 4 people were there. The receptionist refused to see me . She knew my electric was due to be cut off the next day, but she informed me that community action was going to be closed due to snow that we hadn't got yet. On Jan 10, 2025. I had no other options. I told her I would wait and be seen last. She refused. Knowing that I come there because I didn't have the money to keep my electric on. Knowing that it was to be cut off the next day. She refused and denied me help. If I'm asking for help then I'm really needing it. She didn't care if I froze to death knowing it was going to be bad weather. I am very upset. She should not have turned me away. They don't care at community action. By the way I am white, I think because of my race she refused me help

They do bill pay this time of year. It's best to call and ask what they are paying and exactly what you need. I do know you have to have your actual social security card or a tax paper with full social on it. It can take a long time to get finished but it's worth the wait if you really need the help. Often you need a disconnect notice or past due notice or past due date on bill will work, ask first. They serve several counties and the are located in the building with the park by 5th street diner

Applied for LIHEAP to help with heating costs as this past month our bill was $100 which was more than the previous 4 months combined!! The staff were friendly and helpful. Community Action is a huge benefit for BG in so many ways - thank you all for your help!!
