Cclc - Healthy Starts Childrens Center At Ohsu

My kiddo has attended Healthy Starts from 2-4 years old and will stay until Kindergarten. He loves this pre-school and all the teachers. Healthy Starts has been extremely convenient for my work life. The teachers made him a memory book with all of his art projects during his first year there. We love that book and are so grateful to the teachers for making such wonderful memories. The director Cindy creates a very warm and safe environment for the kiddos. Highly recommend.

Both of my children attended Healthy Starts, and we were part of the community for almost six years, from when my daughter started as a one-year-old until my son left this summer to begin kindergarten. The teachers were simply incredible. Every one of them showed genuine care, ensuring my kids were safe and engaged, and forming special bonds that lasted year after year. While I could share endless anecdotes, the most important thing is that the teachers consistently went above and beyond. My children absolutely loved their time at Healthy Starts, and the school did an outstanding job helping them grow into the wonderful people they are today. We are also so grateful to Cindy, the current director, who was there for the entire journey and has been an amazing, consistent presence in my children's lives.

Our daughter attended Healthy Starts at OHSU for four years from 2021 to mid 2025, and overall we had a great experience. Most of the teachers were very kind and caring, and I still have a lot of appreciation for those who looked after my daughter over the years. There was a rough period during the 2nd half of 2024 and early 2025 due to staff rotation and a couple of subpar teachers that were hired during that time, but even then, having most of the other teachers that we knew at the center gave us peace of mind. Once Cindy became director, everything improved — communication, morale, and the overall atmosphere. The facilities are excellent, with two playgrounds (one indoor and one outdoor) and well-equipped classrooms that encourage exploration and learning. Overall, we’re very grateful for the care, attention, and positive experiences our daughter had at Healthy Starts at OHSU.

A very special place. The biggest reason is Cindy, the center director—she truly is the heart of Healthy Starts. She gives her whole self to the kids, families, and staff, providing endless love, support, and peace of mind. My son has now graduated to kindergarten, and while I’m so proud of how prepared and confident he feels, I’ll deeply miss seeing Cindy, Teachers Ellie & Ari, and Chef Lewis each week. The care, encouragement, and foundation they’ve given my son over the past 3+ years have set him up for success in elementary school and beyond. Thank you to the entire team at Healthy Starts for creating such a safe, nurturing, and uplifting environment—we are so grateful!

When we moved to Portland with our two young children our biggest concern was their adjustment leaving their old daycare and starting at another. Their transition to Healthy Starts was seamless, enabled by the love and care they receive from the staff every day. The center's physical space is beautiful, the providers are communicative and kind, and it's obvious how much our children love their new community.
