I am beyond pleased that this beautiful foundation in camp has surpassed the test of time. It had such an impact on me of the summers I was aged 12 through 15 years old which impacts me even today at age 49. I am now and forever a member of the wahila tribe. I came across photos letters and other memorabilia recently from my time there as well as going back for a reunion one Summer and then touring in November 2004 when on a trip at Lake Lure, NC. I had always wanted to be able to go back to this camp as a counselor and teacher or some other support person whether at the camp or the school. My work has been as a healthcare worker for 27 years but I have developed a lot of other creative areas of my life that would definitely lend itself to teaching/leading courses at the camp from dance, photography etc
This is the best and most diverse summer camp! My kids love this place and we come back every summer. It is screen free and they train the staff and counselors in a lot of methods to keep the children safe. They also have some very interesting and unique classes for the kids to take in addition to the normal summer camp ones (paddling, rock climbing, etc.).
Eagle’s Nest Camp has been one of the most formative experiences of my life. As a camper, it shaped my sense of self and my connection to community and to the natural world. Now, as a parent, I am beyond grateful that my daughter gets to experience the same magic. Watching her come home full of stories, songs, and newfound confidence confirms what I’ve always known—Eagle’s Nest is a place that helps kids grow into themselves.
The best summer camp on the planet. All of my kids have gone there. My sibs and I did too. A place where kids have fun, unplug from electronics, enjoy the rivers and mountains in the Asheville area, appreciate each other’s differences. I cannot say enough. Love this place!
Eagle's Nest is an awesome place to send your kids. They will come back as better people. The summer camp offers a great opportunity for kids of all ages to have a great time in the beautiful southern Appalachian Mountains, while learning self-reliance, independence, how to live and work in community, and how to take good care of our planet. The Outdoor Academy is a semester program for tenth graders that help focuses on the environment and culture of the Southern Appalachians as an outdoor classroom to build new leaders. Eagle's Nest is one of the few, if not the only, camp that is not-for-profit, so it totally focused on it's mission. Check it out.
