What Parents Say
Note: These reviews appear to be for Calvert Memorial Hospital's emergency room, obstetrics, and inpatient services, not a daycare center. The facility has mixed reviews ranging from 1-5 stars, with most praising clinical care and staff compassion, though some patients reported inconsistent service quality and communication issues.
My family was involved in a very severe and almost life threatening car accident approximately 10 days ago. The patient care we received at this facility was absolutely unacceptable. I have heard many negative comments about this hospital, but I had never experienced anything myself until my most recent visit. Not only did they take long to tend to my 3 daughters and I, all of which were injured, no one bothered to clean our faces. Instead of taking care of us, the nurses gave us wash cloths to wipe ourselves. That is tremendously inconsiderate, taking into account the volume of the injuries my family and I had endured not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Furthermore, in attempt to transfer my daughter to the children’s hospital, the nurse was denying my ex-husband authorization to transport her daughter to the facility. The extent of my injuries left me incapable to do so. The nurse kept imposing her personal opinion as to who should transport my daughter to the hospital, which is extremely unprofessional and inappropriate. I’m not sure if the staff at this hospital are simply underpaid, overworked, or just outright have a lack of empathy and care for their patients. This hospital needs help. I never want to be taken care of at this facility again.
⸻ I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Jessica Henry throughout my pregnancy and delivery. From my prenatal appointments to the day of delivery, I consistently felt dismissed, unheard, and treated with a lack of compassion. As an OB, bedside manner and empathy are just as important as clinical knowledge, and unfortunately, I did not experience that. During multiple appointments, my concerns were brushed off or addressed in a rushed and insensitive way. I often left feeling more anxious than reassured. Labor and delivery is an extremely vulnerable time for any mother, and instead of feeling supported, I felt uncomfortable and emotionally disregarded. I understand that medical professionals are busy, but kindness, patience, and respect should never be optional — especially in obstetrics. My experience did not reflect the level of care I believe patients deserve. I hope this feedback encourages improvement in communication and bedside manner for future patients.
We unfortunately had to visit the ER on New Years Eve. Being from out of town we had no familiarity with the hospital and area. As we were already nervous after our 4 year old had a medical issue, the staff and nurses eased our minds and made our daughter feel safe and cared for. The nurses spoiled her in all the nicest ways and made her feel safe even when she was scared of the blood draw and other procedures. It was to the point that our daughter told us the nurses were so kind and nice to her. Thank you to the Calvert Health team for helping make our last day of 2025 not a complete stress bomb so we could enter the new year with clarity.
I have nothing but high praise for the professionals at Calvert Health (CH). My experience was with the ER over two days and then the Hospital over two additional days ... for a total stay of 4 days. This was my first time as a patient in a ER/Hospital. The ER staff (Drs, nurses, lab techs, Cat scan and MRI staff, and transport staff etc.) were able to get me stable and rule out all the scary stuff with precision and compassion … from my perspective they were truly awesome. The hospital staff - doctors, nurses, techs, transport, and hospitality - were soooooo good!!! Their efforts enabled my recovery and they developed a comprehensive plan to support my successful transition to home health care. I have nothing but high praise for all the CH staff involved with my care. It is a blessing to have such a wonderful hospital in our community that is staffed by truly extraordinary and dedicated professionals.
My daughter was treated in Calvert ER on 9-20-25. I want to shout out nurse Heather, and Dr. Parmele. They were both awesome and the epitome of service recovery. This was her second trip to this ER in 2 days with severe abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting for 1 week. She was also seen on 9-18-25. If I had to rate them for the first visit, they would receive 1 star. I was not present for that visit but my daughter said they were not taking care of any patients. She recalled a lot of laughing and conversation at the nurses station and several patients loudly fussing because they needed care. Apparently the C-team was on duty. Fast forward to our 9-20 visit. The staff was thorough and professional. As soon as she entered the room both the doctor and nurse were there to complete an assessment. After that, care was rendered pretty quickly. All tests were completed within 45 minutes of her being in the room. Her nausea/vomiting and abdominal pain were treated and relieved. 1 day later, she is still fine, thank goodness.
