First I will say the caregivers that cared for my son and daughter were amazing, except as noted below. My children loved them and thrived under their care from 2021-23. The only reason I give three stars in because of transparency from one director and how a situation was handled. My son was reported to family advocacy for possible abuse when a handprint the size of another 2 year old was found on his side, prompting an investigation involving Pediatrics, who also agreed it was inappropriately reported and CYFD who closed the case in one visit (after the 30 day waiting period) However, even unfounded, this report will always remain under my sons name and listed as unknown abusers. I requested to view the footage from the room to see how the injury occurred. I wanted to be able to have an explanation as to how this occurred since I was being questioned and it was clearly done by another child his age, which he only would have encountered during that time at the cdc. The handbook states they will call you to ask about an injury they notice if you didn't inform them about it, but that did not happen. My first call was from Family Advocacy, letting me know my 2 y/o nonverbal child had been stripped down naked and examined by a group of strangers without my knowledge or presence. When I requested to see the footage, I was told by Becky that it was too late in the day, and she was going home and to essentially calm down because it wasn't a big deal. I was told that I couldn't watch the videos without completing a FOIA request. I then called her supervisor who informed me that I only needed a FOIA request to have a copy not to view, she met the next morning to review as much footage as I could prior to our interview/appointments. During my review of the footage I noticed a caregiver that in my opinion was not adhering to proper guidelines of care, such as turning/twisting my child's arm to make him turn to the other direction, pushing him from behind to make him walk away from her, as well as some other concerning behavior. Combined with what I was seeing on video and he recently had started hysterically crying and not wanting to stay at daycare which was very out of his normal I said I wanted an investigation completed on my sons treatment. When i asked of the behavior displayed within guidelines, i was told that it was not, and it would be addressed. Once I mentioned opening an investigation myself, I was told that I could no longer view the footage and that sefco would take over. Sefco closed the closed the case within a day or so, which is amazing because it takes a long time to view the foootage since you must switch camera angles etc which would lead me to believe they only looked at the incidents I saw and timestamped and not any other days or times, but perhaps they did. Sefco concluded no criminal behaviors were found, which honestly I didn't think anything I saw rose to that level either but definitely is not the way i would expect my delayed child or anyone's child to be treated. I was especially concerned because of my sons inability to communicate if he was being mistreated. I was told by Becky that the employee was one of their most experienced employees and that "retraining" would be completed. I requested that my children more to the other facility because this was a very uncomfortable situation to have dealt with, and that request was fulfilled and my children received excellent care after that. I was told the employee who did not follow guidelines and reported my son to family advocacy would be retrained on abuse signs. Overall the care my children recieved after that was amazing and they loved their caregivers and miss them dearly. I would never want a child to be abused and it not be reported but this was clearly not abuse. This incident was incredibly traumatizing when it occurred (and even now typing it out). Even years after the misconception regarding a FOIA request for viewing footage vs getting a copy was made clear parents were still being told they must complete a FOIA request.
Do not send your child here. The director, Kacie will do whatever to make the center’s shortfalls and wrongdoings seem less than they are. She and most of the staff are there to socialize and not tend to the children.
My daughter just started going here! The teachers and faculty seem to really care about the kids.
