Considering this is an agency people turn to when they have nothing else to turn to, the lack of empathy from the front desk staff is quite jarring and unpleasant to tolerate when I call. She constantly grills me for specific one word answer questions to try and disqualify me from being eligible for help before I even get to speak to the specialist in charge of the departments that I would like to talk to. If I try to talk to the utility department about assistance applying for various electricity help to keep my heat on, she cuts me off mid-sentence to say " we don't have funding" and will keep repeating the phrase until I hang up, even if I just say I want to speak to the head of the utility department. It seems only if I name drop can I get through without question, but that isn't an exact science since departments switch heads all of the time. BWCAA is the only organization in the county that has ability to help people apply for the LIHEAP program allegedly-which is funding through the state, to my knowledge!!-yet she doesn't ever think to acknowledge the fact that these departments can help even if they don't have money. If you can't help anyone without funding, why are you even keeping the lights on and keeping people in the office when you don't have funding? If BWCAA could change their phone monitoring system it would be GREATLY beneficial to begin with an extension list first, instead of speaking to an operator who can't possibly know the facets of different ways that each department can serve you. Historically, she doesn't seem to know how each department can serve the community anyways, because when I actually get to speak to the department by requesting specific individuals by name they're usually able to help, even if not firsthand- they give resources, education and referrals when they can't help. She is rude and cold and dismissive and makes calling during open hours quite unpleasant to do. I'm not one to complain until I can't tolerate the poor treatment anymore. I imagine they probably get quite a few snarky calls, but just think about why that might be for a second. It's not because poor people are ruder and meaner than people who have money. It's absolutely not that, because poor people tend to tip better, have better manners, etc. over people who have actual money. It's because they're at the end of their rope from calling nonprofits in desperation and having them continue to show excitement at hanging up on you. Please consider evaluating this recommendation. Thank you.
This place goes above and beyond to help people Reading some of these reviews I see some want to complain about the wonderful things they do for people BWCA and the staff are wonderful And they try and help everyone no matter what color you are or wich gender you choose to be Again can't say enough good about them they all deserve 5 stars
Do not waste your time. They give certain people assistance and others they rudely tell you that you do not qualufy even if they have to make it up. I am still living down my bad experience with these people i can't get help from no organization its call HARA they may be able to help. From circumventing my case to fraud from sending personal information via the web and a link. I now have fraud. These people discriminate including the complex i was at. I wish i could give zero stars! No accountability at all!!!π©
They were very VERY nice to me. This means a lot to me, since my husband passed away three months ago. They did not know this, and they were still nice to me!!!! This means more to me than you realize!! Thank you!!
I can't say I'm thrilled. Not only did Sara deny the application for rental assistance two days before the deadline for the paperwork but she also acted extremely incompetent about her job. I was in the restroom changing my baby and she was in the lobby sitting there. She didn't introduce herself or anything. After 10 min of us sitting there I looked over to her and asked if she was sara. Then during the process of completing the paperwork she was extremely disrespectful. I was in need of help. No uneducated. The whole process was a mess. No Brian's. I also heard from alot of other people they deny damn near everyone
