What Parents Say
Building Blocks Learning Center receives mixed reviews. Six parents gave 5-star ratings praising welcoming staff, strong communication, curriculum quality, and inclusive care for children with special needs. However, three parents gave 1-2 star ratings citing illness transmission due to unenforced sick policies, high staff turnover, lack of accountability for fundraiser funds, and sudden expulsion of children with behavioral challenges.
My daughter has been going here for just under 1 year. when I was so hesitatant sending my 1 year old to daycare, they made it so welcoming. I got a tour of the entire building with lots of information. They answered any questions I had before even agreeing to enroll her. They also had what they call phase in days where they go for a few hours their first two days just to make sure they are comfortable and they are not thrown right into a totally new environment. This helps so much as my daughter was home with only family for a year. I was so nervous because of the crazy stories you read online about Daycare‘s, but they have an app that you get daily reports, pictures, any supplies that they need and more. Her teachers are all so nice and she literally loves them, she even argues with me when it’s time to go home. They call me immediately if there is anything I need to know and their communication is on top of it always. My daughter wakes up so excited on the days that she gets to go to “school” and I couldn’t be more thankful for them !!
My daughter has been with building blocks after care program since last school year. I cannot say enough good things. She has extra needs and the directors and teachers are so patient, kind, enriching and inclusive. They always find ways to work with her not against her. As a parent of a child who is not typical, it is comforting to place a child with trusted individuals. She always looks forward to going!
I absolutely love this Daycare!! As a new Employee for Building Blocks the staff at this center went out of there way to help me become welcomed. Mrs. Rochelle ( The Director) even went out of her way to give me a tour of the whole facility which I appreciated, while of course everyone including her was managing the kids at the same time! Furthermore, the facility is very clean and the kids all seem very happy and the Director Mrs. Rochelle herself is absolutely wonderful!! If you are in need of a new Daycare on the Mountain definitely come here, Mrs. Rochelle will make you feel 100 % welcomed as well as all of the staff! 😊
Our daughter went to this daycare at the beginning of 2015. Out of the daycares I checked in the area this was one of the better ones from what I could tell. Price was a bit high but not unreasonable. My daughter got sick every single time she went to this this place. Kids get sick a lot when they go to daycare but this was like clockwork. We were never actually able to send her 2 weeks in a row because we would keep her home every time she got sick for respect of the other kids and in accordance with the "policy" the daycare has. I completely respect this policy and wish more parents did. After a couple months I noticed that this place as less of a daycare and more of a hospital waiting room. The kids were a mess: runny noses, coughing, flushed. The “you must keep your kid at home if they are sick” policy was clearly never enforced. As a result, my daughter was consistently ill. On top of this we had to continue paying the daycare for all the weeks that she missed. Which was basically half the time. We finally made the decision to pull her out of the daycare and she did not get sick again. After a few more months we sent her back to try again. The weather was warm and we figured she would be fine. But of course she was once again sick 3 days later. At this point we took her out for good. I also overheard a “teacher” screaming at a kid when I stopped by in the middle of the day to get my daughter early. This doesn’t particularly bother me but it makes me feel like they put on a show when I am around. Which makes me lose faith in their focus when I am not there. When we took her out the second time we had a few days’ worth of money that we provided Building Blocks ahead of time they we knew we would not be using. The director had told us we would be getting a refund. That was about 6 months ago. My wife and I have called several time and they still have not sent us our refund. On a side note we sent our daughter to 3 other places after Building Blocks and she has yet to get sick again. The place needs better organization. Child education experts are important but there seems to be no one that actually knows how to MANAGE a business. They can’t manage the policies and the staff to enforce them and also can’t manage their finances. Unless of course you owe them money. They will remind you daily of upcoming payments. I hope they refund the money that they owe me. And I hope they make many needed changes to their business and staff. If you make the decision to send your child here please pay close attention to the above concerns. I am only one person that had a bad experience and you shouldn’t base your choice on my opinion alone. Form your own and post your experience to help other parents. Good luck.
My son was enrolled in this daycare from 9/2014 to 6/2017. It was a rollercoaster ride to say the least, many ups and downs. First, there is an overwhelming turnover rate of teachers and staff. This alone causes one to wonder, is it a management issue, a program issue or possibly staff deemed inappropriate for the program. Either way, it's questionable. Secondly, we participated in many fundraisers for new playground equipment and discovery centers. None of which ever came to forwishen. To make matters worse, there was 0 accountability of the funds and no transparency or decisions made about the funds with the fundraisers. The final 'icing on the cake' if you will started in the fall of 2016 when my son changed teachers 5 times in 6 months. They kept moving everyone around and getting new teachers. As new teachers were being trained you were just told to 'deal' with the changes and 'wait' for the teachers to be trained properly before you see results. In other words, your child is a guinea pig. The weekly fee remained the same, the quality of care however changed drastically. Finally my son landed in a class with a teacher I trusted. Not one of the two I wanted but my son adjusted well. That was until I found out that they had separated him from children his age and had been with since 2014. I made a few requests to have his summer class changed to one with older children and it was repeatedly dismissed. The director had the audacity to tell my husband they would 'consider' it. After waiting 2 weeks, we decided it was no longer their choice and I fired them. It cost me $340 to do it but I'm confident we've made the best decision.
