I was at this shelter about 15 years ago. They helped me in too many ways to name. Back then my case worker, Miss Williams and the Job Center specialist, Ms. Silvey were literal Godsends. I'm not gonna lie, this wasn't an easy path, but it put me on the right path. I'm now married, and am a homeowner in South Carolina. I will ALWAYS remain grateful for COTS.

If I ever become homeless I would not go to this place. One of the staff was taken bridge cards from the homeless and those that were working to get back on their feet was told they had to show proof of income and the staff would do a budget plan as well as hold their money claiming it as a holding for their housing. The worst scheming staff members preying on the homeless is working for COTS!

The location is in need of some updating. More non-profit(s) need to be alerted to this business. It houses the disabled and single mothers. Much aid is needed here but is apparently scarce. Fire department was out recently. I pray everything is up to fire code 2022 standards. My visiting progressive and see this place as okay. Thanks for the chance to review. Looking forward including greater reviews.

It is funny how people never come down here to help, but always have something negative to say about the area. I was told if you see a place you want to be better.... Be the solution not the problem. I myself have taken over twenty boxes of food for their food pantry. I myself have hunted down landlords to secure housing for possible residents. Sooooooo if you want to talk about anything talk about what you have done. The slash between your start time and end time represents your legacy. COTS a great Staple and stake holder in the great CITY OF DETROIT.

My friends house in Detroit has been with the COTS Program for 9 years. She inherited this home from her Mother and currently lives in Maryland. She gave notice to COTS that she planned to sell the home and would be in town to complete the transaction the end of May. We completed a walkthrough and to our surprise her home was left in deplorable conditions (see pics). The kitchen cabinets were broken, dirt build up all over, food on walls, broken and cracked appliances and most importantly, the home is ROACH INFESTED! So much so that after setting off 54 roach bombs inside and on the perimeter of the home, they were sleeping out of the walls. During the walkthrough the COTS case worker ran out of the house saying “I’ve seen worse” and walked away. This home was not given to COTS this condition. She wouldn’t let a dog live in that filth! What happened to COTS monitoring their tenants? Is it not their responsibility to return the home to the owner in the same condition it was given to them? This is a BREACH OF CONTRACT and I have been encouraging my friend to take them to court to reimburse her for the extermination, the carpet, the cabinets and any and everything else that needs to be replaced or refurbished. The home was so bad that the cleaning crew hired could not complete their job because the roaches were falling from the ceiling. We had to rip out the carpet and the drywall because there were roach eggs and nests in the walls. When I posted a negative review of the program the Coordinator called upset because they called a meeting to discuss. They in essence attempted to place total blame for the home on the owner telling her that she could have hired a management company and she could have given notice to inspect the home. When COTS was questioned about how many times they inspected the home no clear answer was given. When asked if they noticed the property damage and infestation we were told they didn’t see anything. This actually means that they haven’t stepped foot in the home because a blind man could have seen all of that! Then add insult to injury, they told me that they will not compensate or reimburse her for the damages. Now we both are former Real Estate Agents and one thing we know for sure is that it is the responsibility of the tenant (COTS) to return a property to the owner as it was given to them. How many homeowners that have their properties with COTS are aware that Thayer are not fulfilling their obligations set forth in their agreements! How many of them really understand that if their property is damaged COTS will walk away from it shrugging their responsibility? One thing is clear to me and that is the COTS Organization is paying Case Workers who are not carrying out their duties. There is no way that anyone at COTS fulfilled their fiduciary responsibility to ensure that the property in their possession was being properly maintained. A case worker actually signed off of giving the property back to the owner in this condition. If feel that it is our responsibility to make the public aware of this so that the next homeowner is protected. She so far has spent over $1,000 that she does not have and will have to spend more because she is obligated to have the work completed since she has sold it. This is not right at all. Please help her as we leave to go back to MD today and we will not rest until this is done. Beware of this organization because although their intent is good they need to hire competent people to fulfill their mission with fidelity.
