What Parents Say
Parents consistently praise the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Newark for its excellent programs, professional and patient staff, and diverse activities including swimming, tutoring, and academics. The facility is highly regarded as one of the best Boys & Girls Clubs in Delaware with strong youth success outcomes. One parent noted a concern about class scheduling adjustments when events cause delays.
They have excellent programs for young people. The staff is great, they are professional, patient and enjoy working with the youth. My son learned how to swim here, and was able to compete in the Speedo Nationals in Florida.
DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE! MY SON CONES HOME WITH BLACK EYES AND CHIPPED TEETH. DO NOT I REPEAT . DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN HERE!!!!
Really when I used to go here over 20 years ago it was a nice facility. Today thinking my child would enjoy himself too having the same experience I did but no the very opposite. Nothing but the promotion of bullying and not helping the child keep a open mind to help them to understand each other. I know we all just came back from COVID last year but unfortunately this is why I will find someone more pricey because today you really get what you pay for.
I tutor math, instrumental music, social studies to several students. The center is active and pro youth success. I am truly delighted to be part of their program. April Thorpe is the amazing Director of Education. Other than regular activities, snacks are available to students arriving after school.
It was a beautiful, crisp Saturday morning when I decided to set out for a bike ride down route 40. A route I see many people take and seem to enjoy. I left my neighborhood of becks woods and begin to head east, towards Wellington Woods. In the beginning my ride was beautiful and the air was clean. As I made my way closer to Wellington I noticed slowly starting to change. As I passed the wawa on 40 I began to notice the accumulation of trash on the ground because people are to lazy to throw their own garbage away. I come upon the boys and girls club, littered with even more trash, blunt wrappers and an occasional dime bag. The place looks like an abandoned property but it's not. I got past the boys and girls club and the area seems to get even dirtier, just filthy. Trash and other garbage everywhere but in a trashcan. I wondered how could anyone not take personal responsibility after themselves to clean up their mess, but I digress. The smell of black and milds and an occasional whiff of marijuana filled the air as I drove by the Royal Farms. At this point I knew I was close to my destination. Route 40 bike route was a great adventure.
