What Parents Say
Boys and Girls Clubs of South Boston receives overwhelmingly positive feedback, with most reviewers praising the facility, staff, and variety of programs for children ages 6 and up. However, one parent reported significant concerns about enrollment processes, staff dismissiveness, and inadequate handling of behavioral and safety issues.
I’m extremely disappointed with how the Edgerley Family South Boston Boys & Girls Club has handled my family’s experience. For months, I was asked to complete paperwork, meet deadlines, and attend meetings in order to secure a summer camp spot for my child. I was repeatedly reassured that as long as everything was submitted, enrollment would be confirmed. After doing everything asked of me, I was blindsided just the end of the school year with a last-minute rejection. To make matters worse, this organization works closely with my child’s former school, where I currently have multiple open complaints regarding serious unaddressed issues including unreported assaults, bullying, and sexual misconduct. Since my child transferred schools for safety reasons, this Boys & Girls Club location has continued to act as if he were attending their program, despite him not being there for months due to that safety transfer. Whenever I’ve visited the program in the past — especially when addressing behavior concerns — I’ve consistently been met with combative, dismissive attitudes from staff, despite always remaining calm, respectful, and holding my child accountable. The one time we were able to sit down with a social worker at the club, it was made clear that my child’s behaviors weren’t as random or one-sided as previously reported; they were provoked — a fact conveniently left out of prior incident reports. This entire experience feels retaliatory and politically motivated, with little to no regard for transparency, fairness, or child welfare. Decisions seem to be made behind closed doors to protect adults and systems rather than support families. It’s incredibly disappointing that a place claiming to serve youth and families in the community would operate in this way. I would strongly caution other parents about enrolling their children here without being fully aware of how closely these systems are connected and how quickly accountability can disappear when it’s inconvenient for the adults in charge

Great after-school program in the South Boston area. It offers a great variety of programs for students from ages 6yrs. and up. Harry and Alyse are the best. Brand new facility. Check them out.
Being a single parent the single greatest decision I ever made was bringing my twin boys mark and matthew to the south boston boys and girls club the club helped me when i needed it the most amazing organization and amazing staff Thank You for everything you have done for my boys and i. Forever Grateful. B.Walsh
As a child I attended the club and loved it. Have smaller cousins that attend and from what I can tell, it's better now than it was when I was a kid.
