What Parents Say
Parents consistently praise Beth Shalom Early Childhood Department as a nurturing, community-oriented center with excellent teachers and specialized instructors in art, music, and science. Families appreciate the age-appropriate curriculum, caring staff, and strong sense of community. The school's closure policies during inclement weather and Jewish holidays are generally accepted by parents as reasonable and necessary.
My family is so thrilled to send our daughter to this school! It is a nurturing, engaging and truly loving community for young children. They have dedicated art, music and science teachers, responsive management, and a personal touch with all kids. I cannot say enough good things about the classroom teachers- they all deserve medals for their dedication to children, kindness and creativity. Furthermore, we really do feel part of a community - not just parents paying tuition. Everyone is warm and welcoming to one another. Several people have posted complaining loudly about school closures, and while I have found those stressful as a working parent myself, I have never once felt that the school was canceling and anything other than good faith and an effort to keep everyone safe or respond to very low teacher availability because of inclement weather. The management has always been prompt in letting us know in advance if a closure is possible the next day, and transparent about the reasons they will be closed. Anyone who complains about closures for Jewish holidays should not send their child to a Jewish school - as a non-Jewish parent, I love the deep immersion in Jewish culture, religion and values - and respect the school’s right to honor its faith traditions. I will be sad when my daughter ages out of Beth Shalom!
We have built an amazing community by being part of the Beth Shalom ELC. Our children are making friends, parents are highly engaged, and the curriculum is age-appropriate. We have found a deeper level of nurturing with the educators, which is so heartwarming. The art and music are wonderful - and the science is a highlight for our kids. School closures, just like public and private schools for older kids, are "to be expected" with bad/inclement weather. We have never faced closure because of staff shortages. The management is actively engaged in how to make the school even better.
I am in my second year as a very involved Beth Shalom grandparent. I am in the school - and in the classroom - two to three times a week dropping off my granddaughter, so I am able to observe the program first-hand. I have been consistently impressed with the nurturing environment, the warmth of the teachers, and the varied curriculum that my granddaughter has been exposed to. When school is not in session, I act as caregiver because my granddaughter's parents are working. Therefore, I experience days off and cancellations firsthand. For the past two years, the number of those days has not only been entirely reasonable and necessary, but also consistent in number with the public school schedule with its various in-service and other days off. I feel very fortunate that my granddaughter is enrolled at Beth Shalom.
Beth Shalom Early Learning Center (ELC) is absolutely amazing. Our older daughter attended beginning when she was 3 months old and graduated from pre-K. She went into kindergarten prepared, with a love of learning and playing, and amazing lifelong friends. Our younger daughter is now attending ELC. She is so happy, learning so much, and developing amazing friendships. We are incredibly grateful for ELC and would highly recommend the school to anyone looking for daycare. We can't say enough good things about the teachers, administration, and community of families at ELC.
Our older daughter went from the infant room through pre-k at Beth Shalom, and now our younger is doing the same. We love everyone who works there and think it’s a great environment for kids. We love that the kids are regularly exposed to art, music, and science, and that each teacher truly cares about the kids. It’s a wonderful place!
