We’ve found a warm and welcoming community at TBR. My son was incredibly well-prepared for his bar mitzvah and really enjoyed the process of meeting with the rabbi to discuss his d’var Torah and practicing chanting prayers and Torah with the cantor. In the “Hebrew High School” program, the teens meet with the clergy to discuss anti-semitism, Israel, and other important issues, which my son has found to be a very valuable experience.
Very welcoming, down-to-earth community with a fantastic rabbi and a new cantor who brings a lot of energy to the congregation and the religious school program. For those who like to engage in ways other than (or in addition to) services, there is a thriving Nosh & Drash (aka Torah study) every Shabbat morning and plenty of adult education and cultural events throughout the year.
My wife grew up in the Catskills. Her family attended an orthodox Shul. My parents never even considered joining a Synagogue. I had a private Rabbi Tutor come to my house for Bar Mitzvah prep. Temple Beth Rishon, was a warm and welcoming non judgmental Synagogue for my wife and our three children from the very first visit 27yrs ago. My children were very well prepared for their B’nei Mitzvah and they were drawn to the B’nei Mitzvah prep tutor, Judy Ackerman who still teaches the students as if they were her first class. Her patience and kindness honed as a career public school teacher is unsurpassed. I felt so encouraged to attend services while knowing little, participating in my three kids lifecycle events, attended seminars and Melton adult ed for two full years and eventually being part of a six female and one male Adult B’nei Mitzvah class because I wanted to make up for something I never knew I was missing. I am still friends with those classmates and many of us continue to this day on lay leadership committees and BOT. The sanctuary is amazingly beautiful and the current clergy, Rabbi Waxman and Cantor Dubin are terrific Bimah partners. Their ability to teach and their commitment to pastoral care is exceptional. I highly recommend this community because of the blessings I have received thru the personal connections my family has made. Trust my words. You too will feel grateful to be part of TBR.
