We wanted to single out the 4th floor Palliative Hospice Unit. We recently had a family member in this section. In such a trying time, this was as pleasant experience as could be. The staff of this unit were outstanding. Nurse Ally stands out for sure. Her compassion and overall sensitivity with our family member and all of us was really above par. We couldn't ask for a better facility for our loved one. The room was very clean and felt less like a hospital and more like a suite. The entire staff was gentle, from the nurse assistants helping our loved one get comfortable in a chair, to ensuring he was tucked in bed. We never felt like being there on "overwatch" was needed. You are genuine and caring people. Thank you for being so awesome in such a somber time for us.
My sweet nurses Kirstin and Olivia (i think) was the best part of my experience here and my surgeon for my emergency c-section was great as well. They are the only part I would recommend. Every other part was a nightmare. I was left alone after my C-section unmonitored and barely awake. I was left to throw up all over myself since I was still numb from my surgery and couldn't sit up myself. Thankfully my husband was finally brought to my room and was able to help clean me up. The bigger issue was the night after my surgery, I was in excruciating pain and my sweet nurse was the only one to advocate for me. After being ignored and accused of just asking for more medication, my angel of a mother demanded they look deeper. The doctors then had horrible attitudes and did the bare minimum, ignored my WBC still being elevated, and sent me on my way saying the issue was "just gas and constipation" After being discharged, I had to be rushed back to the ER with the same exact pain as I had in this hospital. Thankfully, my husband took me to Norton where the staff actually listened to me. There, while turning yellow, I was told my liver was now starting to fail due to my gallbladder having been extremely infected since my discharge from Baptist. So infected that I needed two separate procedures. I also had to have a drain in my stomach after my emergency gallbladder removal. Because Baptist had ignored my pain, I had to miss out on the first two months with my newborn daughter, could no longer breastfeed, was left in excruciating pain, and was close to suffering fatally from liver failure and septic shock, and my daughter could have been left to grow up without her mom. All because they saw a young black woman and assumed I just wanted drugs. My husband and I are now terrified of me ever giving birth again and I would never ever give birth here again. I am sad that wonderful people like my nurse, my surgeon, and a handful of doctors here have to be looped in to reviews like this. However, the neglect I experienced here was scary and has made me scared to ever have another baby. I'm thankful for Norton.
The nurses on floor eight tower D seem to be woefully incompetent, lazy, and downright abusive towards their patients. My grandma was transferred here from Harrison County and I will never recommend anyone to come here for any reason. The doctor specifically requested a catheter be put in after her surgery and nurses refused to do so. The doctor told us that my grandma had acute kidney failure and that “she could die from this” and offered no treatment other than to “drink water”. She was immediately put on a a diet where she could not drink water. She was given an enema for constipation, which we later found out was completely unnecessary. My grandma was unable to get out of bed by herself and had multiple accidents on the floor and the bed because nurses took upwards of 10-15 minutes to come to the room after call button was pressed. The night nurse, Onome, verbally abused my grandma for having accidents and humiliated her at a time where she was already feeling vulnerable and ashamed. Onome also removed my grandma’s oxygen without doctor approval, which caused her oxygen levels to dip dangerously low. Onome slammed things around, threw my grandma’s walker across the room, and at one point told my grandma that she was just going to have to use the bathroom in her bed because she would no longer be coming to help her out of bed. My grandma was left laying flat on her back where she started to drown in her own vomit and it, again, took upwards of 10 minutes for Onome to come in and help us get her in sitting position. After this she refused to give her zofran and instead said she would just put that my grandma was feeling “nauseous” in her chart. Last time I checked, drowning in your own vomit is a bit above simply feeling nauseous. When the nurses finally deemed to put in the catheter that they were supposed to put in 3 days prior, two LITERS of urine were emptied. It turns out that my grandma did not have acute kidney failure, she was just so blocked up with urine that it was literally killing her. How someone could come in with a broken arm and almost die from kidney failure is beyond me. If I could give zero stars I would. This level of treatment is ridiculous and downright dangerous. My only bright side is the day nurse, April, who was very kind to my grandma the next day after this terrible experience. Do better.
BAPTIST HOSPITAL SUCKS!!! Entered the ER with lower abdominal pain and a distinct and palpable bump on the right lower quadrant. ER doctor only ordered a urinalysis. Was able to get into my PCP 3 days later and within a day I was diagnosed with a hernia. The protrusion was evident by eyesight upon examination but dismissed by the RR doctor. Eff this place.
I received the best service I could ask for! On Oct. 10, 2025 I walked into the ER with (Shortness of breath, vomiting & diarrhea) was greeted right away & was brought right to the room. I don't think it was 5 minutes when the doctor (she was unbelievable 😊) came in. Then my wonderful nurse (Jennifer, one of the best nurses I ever came across) & Jonathan came in. Both went above & beyond to make sure I was comfortable. I was then admitted to the Observation Unit with severe side effects of a medicine I was on & issues with my gallbladder. I'm not actually sure what to say about the OU. Everyone went above & beyond my stay. Alexi(a) or (Ally)? she was my nurse the first day & she knew everything she was supposed to do to make sure I was comfortable. Absolutely loved having her. Then Charles was absolutely amazing on 3rd shift, he had me laughing & made sure I had everything I needed. I can't say too much about the food cuz I was on a liquid diet. The only issue I had came the last night I was there which was Saturday. It took 2 techs to take my blood & then messed up my hand with 2 different spots so it's bruised. The nurse had to come in & take it which it was on the other hand. I had the best experience of service I ever had. Since moving here 5 yrs ago Baptist Hospital is my go to if I need an Emergency Room.
