If you are looking for smaller class sizes, hands-on learning, and an exceptional staff who truly care about your student's success, I would highly recommend Atonement. My daughter & her husband moved their 6th graders to Atonement this year, which was a difficult decision at their age. It was quickly apparent what a great choice they had made! Their children are excited about learning, and highly motivated to do their best. The school offersa variety of field trips, projects and hands-on practices. There are tons of extracurricular activities, like football, volleyball and cooking classes. Atonement School welcomes all into a community where parents & children are respected. If your family is seeking academic excellence, character development and Christian values, I would highly recommend this school! As a grandmother and a former elementary teacher, I am thrilled that my grandkids have the opportunity to attend Atonement!

I am so happy that my 2 granddaughters are at Atonement Lutheran School at 4001 West Beardsley Rd. My daughter switched them from another charter school to Atonement this year. We take them to the school 2-3 day a week and it is night and day of how they view school. They are now excited to go to school in the morning. They talk about what the class will be doing that day. I love that they use books and it isn't sitting down at a computer or on a tablet most of the day. The science teacher actually does hands-on learning to complement the lessons. We met the teachers and they impressed us as well as the school principal that will sub if a teacher is out rather than a part time substitute. They also let the kids be kids by having a longer lunch break and they let them go outside to play. They also have a great financial aid person that helps the parents navigate the rules for ESA funding as well as other charitable organizations. They also are in a league with other schools for sports. Something else they do is a player has to maintain a level of grades or they don't play. We have actually seen that on one team's star player having to sit out due to low grades. The kids then all helped that student in school to get their grade up so they could play the next week. Our grandkids are learning so much in school academic wise but also socially on the playground. I can't say enough good things how this school has transformed my grandkids who did not like school into ones that love school and most importantly want to learn.

My grandmother was an active and generous member here for nearly 25 years. She had to move into assisted living across town and could not go the last 10 years she was with us. We called to see if they would do her services and we got the cold shoulder like we were dealing with a beurocrat at the DMV. “Well technically she was no longer a member”…disgusting. She was in memory care the past 5 years, had no transportation 5 before that.

This is a good school overall but there are some areas where they can improve: 1)They need to pay attention to parents more and address their concerns instead of just ignoring them, 2)they are too religious about having kids memorize Martin Luther commentaries on scriptures, 3)they need a gymnasium and a better P.E. program, 4)they need a more fun music program and more engaging Christian music for kids at Chapel like they have at other Lutheran schools, 5)they need to foster a good PTA for parents to have a voice and help fundraise and organize events. The principal doesn't seem to understand that it is her job to build good positive relationships with parents (the school's customers) or the school will not have customers. She is only concerned about sitting around and enforcing current school policies which are made without any parental input whatsoever.

We never imagined that finding the right school for our children would be such a journey. Like many parents, we always assumed our girls would attend the local public school. But after experiencing public school—and later trying a charter school—we found that something was still missing. The charter school, though promising at first, began to feel more and more like the public system we had left. That’s when we decided to take a leap of faith and explore private education. It was a big decision, and honestly, a little scary. But it has completely changed our daughters’ lives. The transformation has been incredible. School is fun again. Our girls are excited to learn, and they come home eager to share stories and discoveries. They’re learning ancient truths and engaging with ideas in meaningful ways. The hands-on learning approach keeps them involved and curious, not just sitting at a desk all day. The teachers have been nothing short of amazing—always available, supportive, and willing to take the time to help our kids grasp difficult concepts. We’ve never seen this kind of dedication and care before. And we can’t say enough about the financial team. They were patient, knowledgeable, and walked us through the entire ESA and STO process step by step. We were anxious about affordability, but they eased our fears and made the transition possible. We’re so grateful we took the leap. This school has been a blessing to our family.
