I was at astor home for children from 2001 until 2004... it was an alright place then... i remember singing wind beneath my wings for mrs claudette when she was leaving... that lady used to give my daddy a good talking to when he called... so many memories but not all are great
Absolutely horrid!! i’ve witnessed with my own eyes abuse numerous times in that place. Spoke with lawyers CPS justice center they got away with it all the time finally, not knowing it was against the law and a felony. I put a recorder in a stuffed animal and sent it in a recorded 24 hours of horrific abuse I ended up sitting at a table, full of employees , Justice center lawyers CPS and was told that it was illegal to record in facilities and that there was 15 other kids voices and employees on that tape so I would be charged with 15+ felonies. I still tried to release it to the news, but because it was New York state they refused it. They couldn’t. The judge could not listen to it but CPS listened to the entire tape and still because it was against the law to record. Nothing could be done! Please do not send your children there. They will not come out OK ever again. !💔 I now see one of them a supervisor/crisis worker I pray for those children🙌
I was in Astro home for children back in 1972 and I remember they put me in the cottage I’ll never forget Frank Mulhern, and his wife Donna Mulhern, and their son Keith I remember Artie Freeney I remember Dave Tompkins and Terry the house maid I remember sister Patricia wow so many years ago and I still remember their names. I am now 56 years old going on 57 this year so you know that was many many years ago. I had some good experiences there, but I’ll never forget the day. My mom dropped me off how sad I felt at five years old.
I was in Astor Home from 82-84 I believe, I really don't remember much names of teachers and staff but I can say that it was great being there. I met a lot of great people. This place was amazing I would love to go back and visit and be an example to other kids that with faith and honest help your life can change. I was there from 2009-2012. That's from 6-9 years old. I hated every second there. The "safety staff" were used excessive force. All the kids beat me and they did nothing to stop it. I was physically and mentally abused by the staff. If you read this, heed my warning. Don't send your kid here. It will change them, but not in a good way.
