What Parents Say
These reviews do not appear to be for a daycare center but rather for PSU Smith Memorial Student Union and campus facilities. Reviews praise the building's cleanliness, organization, and welcoming atmosphere for various events and student activities.
I came to this building just to pick up an Amazon package, and as a Cuban who lived 27 years on that island-prison, I was shocked to see the bulletin board full of propaganda glorifying the Cuban regime and Che Guevara. The posters talk about a “model” healthcare system and a wonderful country, but that is simply not true. In Cuba, people die because there are no supplies, no medicines, and many times no doctors. Cuba is a dictatorship that represses those who think differently; there is no real freedom, and more than half of the population has fled the misery of communism whenever they’ve had the chance. Che Guevara, whose face you proudly display on a T-shirt, was responsible for the execution of many Cubans, including people persecuted for being different, for their ideas or their sexuality. I deeply respect the freedom that this great nation gives us—the right for everyone to express what they believe and feel. But as a Cuban who lived under the claws of dictatorship, I also have every right to express my disappointment with a place that promotes lies and distorts the truth about what really happens in Cuba. For a diverse city like Portland, it’s disturbing to see an educational space presenting such a one-sided, romanticized version of a dictatorship that has caused so much pain. People who don’t know the reality of Cuba are being misled by this wall of propaganda.
Well kept and free entry thank god because I forgot my id lol. Not super busy when I went at noon.
This review is for the annual Portland Zine Symposium hosted at the PSU Smith Memorial Student Union - Great, welcoming event with vendors from all over the west coast! Many thanks to OutletPDX for making this happen! This is the kind of AWESOMENESS this Portland Needs/Loves!
I went here for the partners event. Pretty nice place inside looks like a u store the outside looks like a diabetic convention with all the needles
Decent enough place to study/hangout when the weather is too poor to sit out in the park blocks. There is a cafeteria with microwaves and limited food options. The chairs facing the park blocks on the second floor are a nice place for people watching. The men's rooms can be a bit gnarly at times as the building is open to the public and regularly used by the neighborhoods homeless population.
