What Parents Say
This is not a daycare facility - it is a YMCA gym and recreation center. Reviews praise the facility's value, cleanliness, staff friendliness, and recent renovations, though some members cite overcrowding, temperature control issues, and concerns about facility policies.
Been going to the ymca since i was a little lad. The sport programs are great and all the amenities. The one thing that i almost can’t bear, though, is how overly crowded it is. Almost every machine in the gym is occupied and there is almost never open court basketball. The only time i was able to go and play openly on the basketball court in the past 6 months was when we had a snowstorm and i almost died trying to make it to the parking lot. But anyway, i wish there were more buildings or designated buildings for basketball games and practices because it’d make it a lot more enjoyable for all of us.
Wichita’s network of YMCAs are almost luxury-level gyms for the price of a basic gym. I’m not kidding! I’ve lived in a couple different states, and the Dr Farha branch was similar to a luxury gym my friend went to. That gym had a cafe and smoothie bar, but it cost $200/month. Seriously, when people ask me back home how I like Wichita I tell them the best things are the sunsets, low cost of living and the YMCAs.
Just want to shout out Tyler who is always so helpful and kind. Tyler was the first person I met when signing up for a membership and completely eliminated any gym anxiety I had and made the whole process so easy. Definitely deserving of alllll the recognition and a raise if you ask me 🙌🏻
Employees let $800 walk out of the door today. The facility looked okay but no one at the front desk seemed like they wanted to be there. As I was waiting to be helped I was overhearing other applicants being exasperatedly grilled to a level where I wasn't sure if they were signing up for the gym or a second-choice candidate for a job or apartment application. With the level of apathy I experienced today as a potential customer, I have concerns about how my family would be treated after they take our money. I might reconsider in the future but for now I'm not sure if this facility is the right fit for my family.
I’ve been coming to the Y for over a decade, between this location and the one in NW Wichita. Overall, it’s very good with a lot of machines, tons of programs, friendly staff and a decently clean facility. There are however some issues, namely with the false impression this is a Christian atmosphere. You will witness women exercising in sport bras only, the occasional vulgar language spoken and depicted on clothing and excessive yelling while throwing weights. I’ve mentioned at least the sports bra situation to the desk and they say there’s nothing they can do since the policy of the management is to not directly address it. When I’m here by myself, I don’t have an issue but it gets uncomfortable when I am here with my family. I will give the staff credit regarding the correction of a member with vulgar language on clothing although, it should have been corrected when that member entered since everyone must go past the desk for sign in. I believe modesty is a family value and I’d like to see it emphasized in a professed outwardly family organization. You won’t be let down by any branch of the Y in Wichita for fitness and fun but, don’t be surprised in 2025 if you see something you weren’t expecting.
