Anchor Center for Blind Children in Denver is a specialized preschool dedicated to serving children with visual impairments and sight-related challenges. Parents consistently praise the center for its highly trained and compassionate staff, expert vision care services, and supportive approach that helps children develop and overcome challenges. The facility is described as a caring, community-supported program that makes a meaningful difference in children's lives.
We first became involved with the Anchor Center when my son was in the NICU and Dr King came and screened him for their cortical vision impairment study. Not only have our friends at Anchor supported us when we were inpatient with stimuli to help my son’s vision, but they patiently waited for him to get strong enough to actually attend the school in person.-which he finally became well enough to do this past month at 22 months old. The school is full of caring staff, teachers, coordinators, and their vision clinic for monitoring my son’s cortical vision impairment is top notch. I can’t say enough good things about the Anchor Center or Dr King. They are the BEST. We look forward to many years working with them.
I hate having to give them only 3 stars. The curriculum is wonderful, and the teachers are great, but if you reside far away, transportation might be cut abruptly with no explanation. Sadly, due to a recent seizure, I am unable to drive my son 45 minutes one-way, and Anchor Center refused to find transportation for him even though it was part of the agreement from the beginning. I'm upset that my son's tuition helped to fund transport for others, but not for him. I was very patient with Anchor about this, but after receiving a condescending email from the Executive Director, I am no longer playing nice. This is truly heartbreaking as I feel my son is the one losing out.
I volunteered at Anchor Center for about a year and can say this is truly a magical place! The students, teachers, and staff are amazing and the facility is beautiful.
If your child has a sight impairment this is a fantastic preschool. Staff is highly trained and experienced to deal w/ all kinds of special needs and medical conditions.
This is a wonderful and needed place in this world. They are all filled with knowledge, patience, and absolute unconditional love. This is a building of wonderful souls doing God's work.
