Alphabet Club

**I do not recommend Alphabet Club Daycare based on our experience.** One of the most serious issues we encountered involved child safety and privacy. We signed a photo release form that did not grant permission for our children’s photos to be posted online or on social media. Despite this, photos of our children were posted on the daycare’s Facebook page. This was especially dangerous because our children were in foster care at the time, and Texas licensing strictly prohibits foster children from being posted on the internet. This put our children at risk and could have compromised our foster license and ability to adopt. This alone was alarming and unacceptable. Behavior management was another major concern. Our oldest child was 3 years old and was written up multiple times for age-appropriate behaviors such as throwing rocks, knocking over toys, spitting, and pushing his brother. The third write-up resulted in a three-day suspension, which a 3-year-old cannot understand and left us without childcare. The suspension also contradicted their own handbook. The handbook states that children receive two written warnings, with suspension occurring after the third warning. Instead, Alphabet Club issued three written warnings, with the third being the suspension. When I respectfully pointed this out, staff appeared irritated rather than receptive. Policies should be followed consistently. Overall, the staff did not seem well trained, patient, empathetic, or equipped to work with young children. Our children had recently transitioned from another daycare, and our oldest was clearly struggling with the adjustment. Rather than developing a behavior intervention plan or working with us, the daycare moved quickly to disciplinary action and suspension within just over a month. This approach did not feel supportive or aligned with Texas minimum standards. I also raised concerns about trauma-informed care due to our children’s foster care background. When I asked if a staff member was trauma informed, she compared trauma to autism, which ARE NOT THE SAME! This further reinforced concerns about staff training and understanding of child development. When I unenrolled our children, the staff was extremely rude and unhelpful. There was a clear lack of professionalism. When I later spoke with the owner, Sharon, she openly criticized her own staff, citing multiple performance and conduct issues (one member was being fired the day we talked). Sharon sated that one member of the staff couldn't count, another was unreliable always calling in sick and brought a fake doctors note, and another had a partner always showing up to the facility with arguments breaking out, resulting in police involvement. Sharon stated she was embarrassed that our children’s photos had been posted online. While she apologized, the conversation highlighted a significant disconnect between ownership and daily operations. Lastly, we chose Alphabet Club in part due to the Brightwheel app and promised daily updates. In reality, communication was extremely inconsistent and often missing. Since leaving Alphabet Club, we transitioned our children to another daycare in Uvalde. After more than two weeks, there have been no behavior concerns whatsoever. The staff at their current facility is caring, professional, and well trained, which confirmed for us that the issues we experienced were not due to our children rather the environment. If you are looking for a daycare with kind, patient, and well-trained staff, Alphabet Club was not the right fit for our family and is not a facility I would recommend.
