What Parents Say
Active Learners Academy receives consistently high praise from parents who highlight the caring leadership of the director (Tami), dedicated long-term staff, and nurturing environment. Parents appreciate the organized curriculum, family events, on-site meals, outdoor play, and low staff turnover. Children reportedly enjoy attending and show strong development and engagement.
The owner of ALA is a very kind, compassionate person who truly cares about the children in her care. She was my daughter’s kindergarten teacher at another daycare and she was THE REASON we stayed. Her lessons were well thought out and organized. She challenged the children to do their best but also was very patient with them, always offering positive encouragement and beaming with pride when the children would develop a new skill. .Both my daughters have since worked at ALA and have loved it! They felt the daycare was clean, well-organized and a predictable, safe environment for staff and children to have fun. I have no doubt that ALA is run with the same care and dedication that Tami had as a teacher so many years ago. She truly is amazing!!
Active Learners Academy is amazing, we send our 3 kids here. We toured several other daycares in the area and this was the only one that we felt comfortable with. We have been absolutely impressed by this daycare. The director and all the teachers and staff are always so kind and really care about the kids and their development, teaching them how to kindly interact with others, and preparing them for kindergarten. They hold events for families to showcase what they have been working on which is great and makes it easier to meet other parents and for our kids to introduce us to their friends. Some events they have held include Kona ice events where a slushy truck comes while the kids can do outside activities and art walks and a really cute Christmas show where the kids all sang holiday songs they had been practicing. We came from another daycare that required us to send lunches each day which way a lot of work each morning while trying to get them all out the door. Active learners has a cook and they provide everything- milk, lunches, snacks, even water cups. We don't send anything except a nap blanket on Mondays and keep extra clothes there. It makes mornings very easy. Their turnover is super low for staff as well. There are several teachers who have been there for over 20 years and also several teachers who attended the daycare as kids and are now teachers there which I think is a testament to the kind and loving environment they have created. We love chatting with the teachers and pickup and drop-off and hearing the funny stories about what our kids said or did that day. Our kids love going there. They are excited in the mornings and talk about seeing their friends. I absolutely love that the kids have a playground for each class and they go out 3 times a day to burn that energy outside. Our kids are sick significantly less than previously as well. I think it's their frequency of having the kids wash their hands and teaching them good hands washing hygiene that helps a lot.
I am writing this review based on my experience with the directors and leaders of the Active Learners Academy, as our son who was supposed to begin care there in September, was unable to do so simply because we were concerned parents and asked questions. We honestly feel we dodged a bullet by not sending our son here. TL:DR – Our son was supposed to start care at this daycare in September, but after I looked up the school’s most recent state inspection and saw that there were multiple violations, around 6 pages worth - many in the room my now 8-month old was going to be in, we politely asked for a second tour and an opportunity to address our concerns as parents. The director instead called us and said we shouldn’t be constantly checking up on them, that they were going to refund our registration deposit and that it would be best that our son did not go to their daycare. She essentially kicked our family out of the daycare, 5 weeks before he was set to begin, because we asked questions about their facility and most recent inspection. She also added that they had a long wait list of families and were going to give the spot to one of those families instead. We were left scrambling to find him care before my partner’s paternity leave ended. Emails and the inspection screenshots attached. Longer Version: We looked up Active Learner’s Academy on Colorado Shines in winter 2024 while doing research on daycares in our area for our (then unborn) son. We toured the facility, and while it is an older and crowded building, it seemed like a good place. In December 2024 we paid a registration deposit to hold a spot for our son to begin in summer/fall of 2025. We checked in with them in April asking if there was anything we needed to do in advance, and they said no that they would be in touch as we got closer to his start date. In July, we ended up reaching out to inquire about potentially sending our toddler there as well. During that inquiry process, I looked up the school on Colorado Shines again, we do this frequently with all daycares my children will attend, or have attended, just for peace of mind. It was nothing specific to Active Learners Academy. Their most recent inspection had a long list of violations, many of which were in the room that my infant son was to attend. Violations included: -Plastic bags accessible to infants -Diaper rash creams accessible to infants -Inaccurate tracking of children in their care -Uncovered outlets accessible to children -Blocked exits, and more We emailed them politely asking if we could do a second tour and chat at the event that we were planning to attend with our children. I was completely transparent about why we were asking for this tour and conversation. I even mentioned some of them seemed minor and easily addressable, but we wanted to talk about our concerns. Up until this point, they had been very responsive. After we asked for the tour, on a Friday morning, they stopped emailing back and instead called us the following Monday. When we connected on the phone, and I wish I would’ve recorded the conversation, the director told us she was taken aback that we would even ask for another tour. That we had planned to send our son there for months and we shouldn’t be checking up on them like this. That other families send their kids there and don’t check in on them like this. That because we asked for another tour and for our concerns to be addressed that there was a lack of trust and it would be better that our son, or children, did not attend their daycare. We weren’t even trying to pull our son out of the care center, just thought they would have an open-door policy to discuss parent concerns, but we were wrong. She did offer to refund our deposit, and followed through with that, so at least there was that, but we were left scrambling to find our son care all because we looked up publicly accessible documents for parents and asked questions about their facility’s violation-riddled inspection.
Active Learners Academy is a wonderful and welcoming daycare. The staff are always kind, caring, and attentive. My extended family has been bringing their children here for years, and now I’m proud to have my son enrolled as well. They’ve consistently set the bar very high when it comes to creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for kids. We couldn’t be happier with the care and support they provide.
We loved Active Learners! Our daughter went here from 3-10 months and the staff was wonderful. We moved out of the area so I am disappointed that we now have to find a new daycare. I wish I could have moved Active Learners with us :) The staff was very sweet and caring. They update the app that tracks check in/out, eat/sleep etc. all day so you can keep tabs on your little one.
