What Parents Say
Achievements (Kennedy Krieger Institute) receives mixed reviews with significant operational and clinical concerns. While some parents praise the diagnostic services and professional staff, many report chronic waitlist mismanagement, poor communication, administrative failures, and concerns about diagnostic accuracy and high costs.
Terri Parsons is apparently the only Administrative Services Coordinator for the entire Neurobehavioral Unit and all she does is lie. Lie about meetings, lies about getting back with you, lies about when you'll get a decision, etc. A year and half later and still no decision letter. She said we'd get it 4 months ago in an email and now will not respond to any emails! The supervisors do not care and will not return your calls either. I would be greatly concerned if my child did go here, would I even be able to contact anyone for an update. Don't waste your time trying to get your child help by going here! It has been a year and a half since the hospital did the referral to KKI and all they do is gaslight and lie. FYI, save ALL your emails from them. Unfortunately Google won't let me give zero stars. I'd give them every red flag if that was even an option!
The REACH department was able to give my child an ASD research diagnosis to fast track my child’s medical diagnosis. The estimated wait time when from 18 months to 1. We have services now and I could not thank them enough.
Misdiagnosed my child which lead to a delay in access to appropriate services. Dr Vasa told us to change his diet and try Karate, without even asking what our home diet and activities are (his diet was already what she wanted us to change it to and we are a martial arts family, so clearly her assessment skills are quite lacking). I expressed my concerns prior to leaving, that every professional who actually knows and works with him also disagreed with her, and she just shut me down. I feel like they held us hostage us on a wait list then robbed us of thousands of dollars while my child still didn't get the help he needed. Go anywhere but here if you want to help your child.
From the time I requested my children to be added, removed from the wait list at different times I always felt comfortable asking questions and following up on outstanding concerns. I was also able to verify and update health insurance coverage prior to any appointments being scheduled. Our in-person & virtual appointments were excellent, everyone that we interacted with were pleasant and professional. Thank you all for your patience and for the support that we needed!
First child assessment, great experience. Then when I made it to the top of a waitlist for a service, a voicemail was left stating that since my insurance didn’t cover the service, they were taking me off of the waitlist. When I called to say I was willing to go out of network I was told I would be at the bottom of the waitlist. Second child, regular intake completed but CARD intake never happened and I called after 3 months. I was sent to multiple departments because they couldn’t find my second child in the system. Then I waited on hold for two hours to be told to leave a voicemail and they would call me back within 48 hours. I left two different phone numbers on that voicemail in case I was not available on my main line and neither line has a missed call or a voicemail after three weeks. I’m sure services are great if you can actually get on a waitlist and stay there.
