What Parents Say
Acacia Learning Center received mostly 5-star reviews praising caring staff, safe environment, educational activities, and affordable rates. However, recent reviews from 2024 highlight significant concerns about administrative changes, staff turnover, poor communication, inadequate resources, and lack of accountability following departures of key personnel in fall 2023.
Our son was at Acacia for nearly 2 years. We had a fantastic experience until the beginning of 2024. The teachers were so kind, compassionate and caring. We couldn't have imagined a better place for our son. Unfortunately, since the beginning of 2024 there has been significant turnover in terms of teachers and administration. We decided to move our son to a new daycare at the beginning of the summer because we no longer felt as if he was safe at Acacia. For example, we had to purchase latex gloves for his teachers because the administration and board would not provide them with funds to purchase the gloves needed for cleaning diapers and preparing food. The school was significantly understaffed and many of the teachers that we loved left because they were burned out. The new staff provided minimal to no updates throughout the day and the end-of-day feedback about our son's day was typically just "He had a good day". This problem with lack of communication stems directly from the new administration and board of directors. These leaders take no accountability for the problems that Acacia has faced and defer blame to others. We are still owed a tuition refund from Acacia and either receive no response from the director or when she does respond it is to pass blame to another person with no plans to resolve the issue. I truly hope that Acacia can return to the amazing place that it once was, but this won't happen until there are significant organizational changes.
Like others have said, our child had a good experience at Acacia for over a year. It felt like a community school, and we were welcomed. The teachers and staff were nothing short of incredible and caring for our child. Things started to go sideways at the school when multiple directors transitioned during a short period of time. It became clear that the school is on probation, that the board governing the school provides little oversight or support, and that not all staff were treated equally. The most recent abrupt resignation of a new director and subsequent departure of many staff were the straws that broke the camel’s back for us. The board, which is comprised of members of the church, and offers little to no visibility into their governance, only began to communicate with families when concerns were communicated. They were consistently reactive in the face of major turmoil. The staff and teachers along with the parents and students at the school created a lovely community. For our family that feeling of community dissolved rapidly and we withdrew our child, along with many others. I would love to send my child to a great neighborhood childcare facility, but Acacia no longer feels like that place for us.
Would love to be able to give a different review but given the last 8 months, it’s not a surprise they are closing. It should be noted that St Stephen Missionary Baptist Church ran this childcare but is not mentioned on the Acacia website as a governing board and failed to have qualified in ECE board members. We had a lovely experience for a while and cherished many of the teachers. Hopeful they will be able to find a better childcare solution. Be sure to check Colorado Shines for more information.
We had a mostly good experience here over the 2+ years my child attended Acacia, but I just wanted to warn everyone who's looking for care now (May 2024) that this place has been increasingly chaotic since some key administrative staff left in fall of 2023, including tons of teacher dissatisfaction and turnover. Acacia is managed by a board made up of random members of the church next door, which has led to some serious issues recently (including allegations that Acacia staff who are family or friends of the board members were not appropriately disciplined/ let go after serious incidents). Tons of teachers and families have left over the past couple weeks. Before you send your kid here, do yourself a favor and ask the teachers how long they've been teaching in your child's room, whether they're happy there and fairly paid, if they're working reasonable hours, and whether they have a budget to buy classroom supplies. Ask the director whether the board has added any parent and teacher representatives and started holding regular open meetings, and ask other parents whether there has been transparent communication from the leadership about licensing, staffing, etc. I really hope Acacia is able to turn things around and get back to the community they used to be (but we're not sticking around to find out).
We had a phenomenal experience at Acacia with our son for two plus years. The teachers were nothing short of spectacular and caring. However, in early 2024 the entire center tanked due to a bizarre, church affiliated oversight board. Unbeknownst to families, Acacia was classified as a religious organization and the board began wielding power in early 2024. The teachers were put in terrible working conditions and many of the the teachers and families left in May 2024 amid the chaos. Quite frankly the entire situation was devastating for a daycare center that had been so excellent just a few months before (I hope they can turn it around). If you are seriously considering this place, please ensure that the board has made significant changes, including (1) having a parent and teacher on the board, (2) hosting open to the public board meetings, and (3) providing fiscal transparency. Additionally, I would also inquire about how long the administration has been in place. While I am leaving a one star review, I want to reiterate that the teachers were spectacular at this facility (please hire them, if they are looking for jobs!). They were just victims of a tragic downward spiral that was out of their control.
